Tinting Questions

I want to tint my F30 with 35% all around. Dealership wants $450 to do the job. I would like to have it done prior to taking delivery, but that price is a little steep. A local nearby shop quoted $235 for llumar tint ($300 for the ceramic). Seems more realistic. The shop mentioned having a Porter drive the car over prior to delivery for a small fee. Has anyone done this? I am thinking about cutting the dealership out of the tinting process because why should they get such a cut they don't do any of the work. Anyone have any experience with this or recommendations? What do you guys pay for Llumar tint? Should I get the ceramic for $65 extra? Anyone have any difficulty tinting the sunroof?

i doubt the dealer is going to let them pick up your car before you take delivery. especially if you are cutting them out of the deal. no reward, high risk.

just pick up your car, then bring it to get tinted.

i would go for the ceramic. here in NYC formula one pinnacle is 450 so 300 is good. oddly regular llumar is cheaper here, 225

I had my tints done for like $125 to $150 (don't remember exactly) three years ago. The place that did my car does BMWs, Camrys, Lexus (redundant i guess), lamborghini, and more. I was in and out in the course of an hour. So yea, screw the dealership. The tint place you suggested seems to be priced kind of high, imo. I did Llumar and never had issues

I had my 2001 740iL tinted at the BMW dealership, for their "at cost" price of $150 deal along with the purchase of the car then. It came with a "lifetime" guarantee. Well, 5 yrs later the back window started bubbling, & the tint company went out of business. There goes that "lifetime" warantee. Costs me another $65 for replacement.

For the last 8 cars in our family, always had just the front windows tinted 35% (max allowed legal in Houston TX) on our SUV's & trucks for $50, & 35% fronts & 5% rears & back windows $99 for our kids' cars, $149 for upgraded lifetime tints (yep, got suckered again) for our BMWs & Mercedes.

There's quite a few reputable tint shops in the Houston metro areas, so we never use the dealerships anymore. The dealerships just contract those services out anyways, with a huge mark up for the "convenience" of having it done at the dealership.

If you bought the tint from the dealership (even if "at cost") why would you care if the tint company went out of business? That's the dealerships problem. You bought a brand new car, they made profit on you.

I just paid 180 to have my windows tinted here in MN. You can tell the dealer what your plan is and they might cut you a deal. If dealer wont give you a deal then just take it to have it tinted. Chances are the same people that do their tinting are the people that you will have do your tinting.

I care because when it's time for me to have my "lifetime" warantee tint job on my rear window replaced, tint company no longer around to do the work....

But if you paid the dealership, and not the tint company, it would be the dealer's job to honor the lifetime warranty that they "sold" you with the tint? So it would be their problem to find another place to re-do the tint at their cost?
