Need new key - what are my options???

I ran the key / FOB through the wash and now it does not work. I still need to try another battery, but assuming that does not work, what are my options?

The hard key still works to open the car.

Is it possible to just order a FOB? Does it then need to programmed?

How does it work, how much will it cost? I see that there are some sold online, but then require programming.

I am in the US.

Not sure if anyone has programmed keys from ebay, maybe worth a shot?

To my understanding I heard you can not use a used FOB that was already programmed to a different car. It has to be new after market or dealer.

New key

I think that you need to go to the dealer to get a new fob which comes with a key. You need to show them your title with the VIN number on it and they order one for you. Mine came the next day. Cost was around $225. It sounds high, but some cars are much higher and require the dealer to program them. A new key on a Toyota Prius for one of my friends cost $400 and it took some time waiting at the dealer. A new key fob on my Porsche 997 cost $295 including programming.
