the beginning of a new month, couple hundred bucks available for another mod
now i'm gonna install a single stainless steal (or titanium) pipe from headers all the way back. my question is which size is best to use? 2.5", 3" or something in between?
keeping in mind that stock is dual piping with 2" size each.

3" single pipe. You may lose a touch of low-end grunt, but mid-range and top-end will be improved significantly.

Re: Headers Installed!!

She's already insane on low RPM's, i'm not worried about that, it's the size of the pipe i'm worried about since many exhaust shops told me that 3" would b too big (probably they didn't know i'll b running headers and ECU remap which will give a great deal of power gain )

You have to remember, the M54B30 is a high-output motor. It already has high compression pistons and a decent redline (safely upped to 7,000 RPM with a simple software flash), so the amount of exhaust gas coming out of the engine is significant under load. Considering the ZHP has more aggressive cams, this is only increased even more.

On average (if memory serves me correctly), a single 3" header-back exhaust (with a race cat) netted between 6 to 8 WHP gains. That's significant for this car. That and headers alone would quite possibly give ~15 WHP on a non-ZHP M54B30. Add in those more aggressive cams and you'll probably be upwards of 20 WHP.

I wouldn't mind getting the ZHP retrofit package from ECS Tuning. $400, but a royal pain in the ass to install. They say it's for facelifted cars only, but surely it can be applied to a pre-facelift.

Meant to tell you I talked to BimmerBrakes.com about their headers. He said they should be in soon and he'll (and I quote) "work some reasonable numbers out."

Patience.

I am still going with my theory of after the Fseries coming out the e46 the mass produce type companies are not interested and is not quite yet old and cheap enough either. Now that the e90 is the old model if you want an older "more pure" 3 series your going to buy an e46 for next to nothing and mod the crap out of it. If you have some cash to blow and want a little more style you get an e90 ( I have been seeing a lot of them for $mid teen K with respectable mileage.) Leaves the e46 in a bit of a limbo area right now.

I will not drive an E9x. Unless it's like a 500hp 335 or a E92 M3 sedan supercharged. You can quote me on that.

here's a group buy for the Gen3 Headers if u'r interested, 400$ though
as for ebay seller, he'll price the headers as soon as they'r in stock.
IMO, due to the rise in prices of headers since the demand are becoming high, i wouldn't be surprised if the prices on the ebay headers got bumped to 300$

anywho, back to my car
first couple of weeks it was running perfectly, fuel efficiency, everything was great.
now, fuel consumption got a bit higher than usual, not sure if due to the lousier gas we'r having, or because it needs a software remap due to running catless headers

i'm forced to put a hold on the remap since i'm waiting to install the custom exhaust setup, but i'm yet to find a 3" inlet muffler
i found one on ebay, with a silencer, however the seller is yet to reply to my emails for an international shipping quote

Note: updated original post for current/pending upgrades

Current performance mods:
- Headers
- CAI (Custom made), will also be doing a CSL Intake upgrade soon
- Free flow sport muffler from ebay, weighs 6lbs, loud as hell however it removed the huge back pressure that was caused by the stock performance muffler due to the high performance output of the headers, almost blew my first resonator. now the flow is all better. i also had rough idle at start up when still cold, which was fixed, seems the back pressure was causing that too, go figure

will be dyno'ing soon.
btw, hp IS cumulative, my friend has an obd scanner that gets the hp/whp/tq (in addition to other cool stuff like getting the error codes...), whenever he gets a new mod in, he tests it. he's got his ZHP up to 290hp

TODO list before this weekend's remap
- SAP delete
- Post Cats O2 sensors delete.

Video will be posted during this week

finally got a video in
Notes about it. i was looking at the speedometer through the recorder
1st gear full throttle
2nd gear: early and slow shift, car going all sideways so was barely hitting half throttle down, and i was too busy keeping the steering wheel in one place with the focus on the speedometer then i was shifting gears and keeping the car on track
after i get it remaped this weekend, will get a still cam installed and do a real 0-100 run
let me know what u guys think

I had an OBD-II monitor tell me I made 275 HP once. I laughed. I'm probably closer to 220 WHP. 290 WHP is 135i slaying territory.

And was that video under full throttle?

EDIT: I just listened to that video with speakers on. Your car sounds so... so... angry.

only 1st full throttle, 2nd almost half, from all the wheelspin, holding the shifter in 1 hand, steeringwheel and phone in the second hand, a bit too tough controlling it

and yes, angry as hell

thanks
oh yes the drone is there, however i'm getting used to it due to the performance i got from a simple exhaust mod.
at first when i got it installed, i wasn't accustomed to this loud exhaust sound, almost told the exhaust shop to take it off! good thing my friend was with me and told me he loved it, and that i'll get used to it, which i did

i'll try to get another vid during this week from outisde car, this way u'll hear how she sounds passing by
