video clip. Does it sound like a bearing failure?

Guys,

here is a 22 sec video on my e36 engine bay. I don't have a car stethoscope, but it sounds like the noise is from the alternator. What do you think, bearing noise? thanks!

It sounds like a bearing noise for sure, but all the alternator bearings I've ever heard fail had a continuous noise, not coming and going like that. I'd suspect the idler or tensioner pulley bearings. Take the belt off and hand spin the alternator. It may not squeal, but you'll be able to tell if it feels less than silky smooth.

Hmmm Ok I see. Thank for the input. I'll check it out when I get the time, but I'll try to borrow or buy a stethoscope first.
cheers!

hahha . thanks for links. Looks like the digital one is superior but do we really need it

Funny thing is the squeal has temporarily disappeared, thus I need to wait for it to resurface.

For now thanks again!

I left this one for sometime. It was still on and off, but looks like the tensioner wheel was the culprit.
