It's kind of interesting reading your comments. I'm on a call right now for the GGC's advanced car control clinic we're having this Saturday. This would be perfect for you. Sadly it filled up a very long time ago.

@ Randall; my love, be careful. Return home safely to me! If that means braking early and coasting through turns, so be it.

Not sure if WI qualifies as "somewhere people want to live" but my mom bought a rental house for well under $100k, I think it was in the 55-65k range. She's stuck about $10k into fixing it up and the interior is actually really nice, especially for a rental house.

Bottom floor has 2 bedrooms, big living room, all new woodwork, carpeting, appliances, counters, flooring, etc...

Top floor has 3 bedrooms, new carpeting, appliances, woodwork, shower/toilet, etc..

Best part? Rent is $450/month with water included...

Anything for you, Babycakes.

I actually had a picture of you taped to the inside of my helmet visor to remind me of you.

This is getting awfully gay.

That counts Ryan, and is crazy. I know there's nothing for that price somewhere that *I* would want to live, but I'm trying to be reasonable because some people would want to live there. Now Detroit......I don't think ANYONE wants to live there.

I have friends in Detroit making a solid go of it. Since everything is so inexpensive, there's a very vibrant art community there.

I have a cousin that is a retired MD that lives there. He was big in real estate for many years, and owned a large part of downtown at one time. Being a doctor was sort of a hobby, since he made his money (LOTS of money) in real estate there and down here on the Gulf of Mexico waterfront. He bought up large stretches of beachfront property before it began to develop, and sold it off when it boomed. He and his whole family (but not cousins ) are set for life and their grandchildren, too. Nice, unassuming, quiet guy. You'd never guess he's wealthy.

That's what I'm trying to accomplish by staying out of Detroit.

Actually, I've spent an inordinate amount of time on Street View in Detroit. I find the decay/blight very fascinating. While we have the odd run down/abandoned house here or there, it's nothing like Detroit just because there's so much demand here. To see entire city blocks of houses with trees growing through them or burned out or falling down or completely demolished is a little hard to fathom. I'd love to pick up a protection-package BMW and go cruise through the streets a bit and see what's up, maybe go check out an old factory/warehouse or two.

Not unlike Oakland. There are plenty of bad spots in Oakland where all the hip kids from SF move to save money. Before long it will be re-gentrified.

I love that stuff too. Cleveland is like that as well. Check out this site if you like the urban decay aspect in Detroit, this guy is an amazing photographer that specializes in the ruins of Detroit. There's another guy, Ruins of Detroit I think that does it.

Besides, there's no one left in Detroit to shoot you Chad. It's completely empty!

Randy why are you disappointed in the video, I liked the speedo/tach and course map aspect of it. Or did you do that? Looks like it was a blast though, saw you break 100 mph on the straightaway.

Re: Because Racecar: Gooby's Track Adventures v1.00

I was disappointed because I didn't capture when I went off track at about 100 mph.

Also the speedo is inaccurate. Its 5-10 mph slower than what I really was doing and it fails to update sometimes. Its all because I'm using the internal phone gps instead of a external bluetooth gps.

The track map and timer were pretty much on point though. Maybe a little off but I didn't notice since I had nothing to compare to.

You make a good point

I've checked out that site before, it's wild, really, to imagine that a city that was once booming could be reduced to what it is now. We should get some Kevlar, a Michigan CCW, and go explore some time.

Not having been to Detroit I could be talking out my ass here, but I see a lot of differences between Detroit and Oakland.

Oakland is located in an off-the-charts job market area and is close to two other world class cities. We have much better cultural variety, arts, and weather. Oakland has a crime problem, but doesn't have tens of square miles of dilapidated and neglected housing stock. Detroit has a LOT farther to go than Oakland. There are definitely places in Oakland I'd live, where as Detroit seems to have problems everywhere according to the mayor's rehab map.

Already have some Kevlar panels. When they built Secret Service's office next door it had Kevlar walls! Guess who talked the workers into giving them the scrap panels?
That's right, this guy. Works on pistol rounds, 7.9 mm Mauser, not so much.

Still thought it was good video, but I can see where it's be frustrating to have some stuff a little off like that. Looked like a heck of a good time though. What'd it cost if you don't mind my asking?

It's about ~$150 a day with the club I go with. Thats relatively cheap as every other club is about ~$250 a day.

One of the lowest costs, actually. The BMW CCA's track days are higher in value AND cost, so it can often be a tough bullet to bite.

That looks like a lot of fun.....cool vids

A fire suit is not required for track days ??

The thought of a crash with possible fire is enough to get me in one..
