It is pricey Down Under. Here, it's $74 for 7 quarts of BMW branded synthetic (meets LL-01 instead of LL-04) plus a filter, delivered to your door.

6000 km? I'd be changing my oil every 6 or 7 weeks!

For the amount of money you pay for the oil, you'd think you would actually use it for the recommended intervals. Why get LL-04 rated oil if you're going to change it as often as a non-synthetic oil? I get BMW oil + filter together for $55 from my dealer, but even at this price I'm not wasting it at 6000km intervals.

Read some of the oil analyses that others have done. If I recall correctly, the oil actually takes a few thousand km to achieve its peak performance.

Excerpt from a study:

"As in the previous study, the results showed that the aged engine oils provide lower friction and much improved wear protection capability. "

Hi SilverX3,

Fully Synth and filter once a year...It gets a squirt on the Motorway on-ramps but that's it...I don't ever thrash it. Do 7,000pa.

Did my diff oil at 38,000m when I bought it...75 w90 fully synth and the air-filters and plugs. Diff oil came out like grunge with a pump.

Don't think I'll do the trans oil myself although already got the pan etc

Rob,
