Suddenly I'm less mad that I pay out the brown eye for full coverage.
Sorry about the loss brother, you got the wrong bimmer, apparently this is a two in .... however many models were produced, situation. From our point of view.
Better luck with your next vehicle.

Your 12 year old car caught on fire......and you're trying to blame BMW for the cause......well, I normally would say get an attorney but not sure if you'd want to deal with the certain rejection you'd get OR the $$ you'd have to spend for them to take on your case. So I'll just say good luck cause you're gonna need it.

Sorry again, guy. Your car's abnormality is a rarity we've only recently seen evidence of as it is. Bob's giving you his honest and unforgiving diagnosis, and frankly if we were all honest with ourselves, we'd agree with his 'Tough Love'. Take it as a loss.

agreed. not much you can do. A car catching on fire is not a common thing (maybe over on the Ferrari 458 forum......) on this forum, so there really isnt much we can do to help. and, like other people have been saying, the car is most likely not worth the money you will have to pay to unsuccessfully try and fight one of the most reputable car companies out there.. Sorry, nothing we can do.

This was my 325.

This is what I have now.
umadbro?
Move the f*** on and get over it.
I paid for the 325 myself and same for the 330. Full-time student here.
Spend that time whining on something more productive.

I've been on e46 forums now for over nine years, and the one thing I'm sure of and can bet with certainty that it will happen; someone will respond to a pic of a wrecked car with "It'll buff out" and think they've said the funniest thing in the world.

What can I type? I appreciate the classics.

Funniest in the world, though? I'd like to think I have more comedic talent than that.

Hey, I feel sorry for your loss. Things happen that sometimes we can not expect. You seem like a good hard working person. I'm going to be quite frank with you as we are both roughly in the same age group, I'm just a little older than you.
Don't count on BMW to help you with your 12 year old BMW, as mean as it sounds that's how these big corporations are, and they wouldn't even care if the car was year old with warranty and they might be aware of this problem but don't to shell out $$$ to make each and every customer happy. They got half a dozen+ lawyers that would fight you on this, so at the end of the day, the only thing your going to get is an apology letter from BMW for your misap like we have and probably 10%-15% coupon usable on your next service. All car manufactures are like this, so don't hold your breath.
Another thing, did you have the car inspected before you bought it? Maybe it was an underlying problem. One thing, you should have got was basic coverage + theft-fire insurance. The extra coverage costs not more than $20 a month more with basic coverage. If you had that, you would be in a better situation.
I feel sorry for you, and I have kind of been in your bought to, and I guess sometimes we learn the hard way. Consider this a lesson, and for your next car, have it checked by BMW (costs like $200) but they know what to look at it, and get the extra coverage.
You don't need collision as the value of the car isn't there, and you don't want pay $70-$100 per month, but just keep fire and theft insurance for your next car.
BMW's are good cars, but I guess you had bad luck with yours, and I hope you will come back.
Regards

This one takes the cake though.
Bet you won't believe this: the crash happened just outside of my workplace. A coworker at the scene told me, "it'll buff out" at the spot after I got out of there.
Took a while for me to go from to and now

Red face

Another reason why BMW's aren't good for aftermarket crap.
I hope he didn't have one. Volkswagen's are notorious for catching on fire because of after market sound systems. Not being installed properly and all.
I feel bad for the guy though, hope he gets over it.

You probably installed it properly, these days, inexperienced teenagers are installing sound systems and screw up, I have seen it happen on a E36 that kept on losing charge, my buddy installed his own sound system. He screwed up big time, and had to pay top dollar to rework the wires, and get a new battery.
These cars aren't Honda's or Chevy's lol

hahah, i am a teenager, but i dont think im THAT inexperienced. i only installed a sub and a new head unit, for now. I was afraid of some mistake going really bad, so i soldered everything, heat shrunk and taped everything up, and used a proper connector that is designed to connect to car batteries..

Never saying you were inexperienced fellow member, I'm sure you went out of your way for the proper installation, just talking about these guys out there that think that Bimmers are as Civic's or Chevy's, not as easy and end up messing up.
