Question Tech package and apps?

Hi all,

I haven't found a good summary of what each of these things does. Anyone who's got a MY14 X3 want to chime in?

BMW Apps: as far as I know, this is currently hit-or-miss, but allows you to retrieve emails, calendar entries, text messages, twitter, and facebook statuses. Does it require a mobile phone? If so, does it require a USB connection or is advanced bluetooth ok? (I checked the website and it appears that emails and calendars aren't available for iphones. weird.)

BMW Connect: google browsing? What else? Does it require a mobile phone? Bluetooth or USB?

BMW Remote: iphone app that allows unlocking, remote horn, headlights, preconditioning...

BMW Connected: iphone app. Not sure what it does, exactly. Is this part of BMW Connect?

BMW Assist: emergency assistance and (optionally) concierge service.

BMW Online: ??

What else? What do I have wrong? What are some things you can't live without, and what others have been disappointing?

Hey...saw no one replied to this. So...what phone do you have? This makes all the difference. If it's an iPhone (like me), there is only the calendar via the BMW Connected App that is available. Email and your calendar via Office in iDrive doesn't come through. (apple issue). The BMW Remote is for unlocking, precondition, and location info (within a certain radius).

So...the BMW Connect - that will get you the EcoPro Analysis data if you care. It will also give you Facebook, Twitter, and news (RSS) feeds on the screen. For the other apps like Pandora, you must run those outside of Connected on their own. Anything you play in Pandora will automagically pop up on the car's screen.

BMW Apps require a mobile phone.

As for Assist/Concierge/Online - haven't been able to do much since my account is having issues because of the 2014 model.

Thanks, sfiermon. I have an iphone 5. Too bad about no emails/sms! You'd think they'd have this already, but maybe it's coming later.

Does BMW Connect or BMW Apps require the phone to be connected via USB, or will it work via bluetooth? Is the cable included? How do I let them know I need lightning as opposed to 30-pin?

You can use the cable that the iPhone came with. That's what I'd do. Use bluetooth for the phone piece and the iPhone cable (which plugs into the armrest in the center) for Apps and audio.
