Timing chain tensioner

Would it be common for my upper tensioner to loosen up after 118k miles? I am hearing a slight "rattle" near the Vanos cover and timing chain and I'm curious how many people have changed the upper tensioner

The rattle is more than likely the vanos itself. If it were my car, I would rebuild the vanos and throw a new upper and lower tensioner on there to make sure...

Timing chain tensioner

I have the new upper tensioner changing that today along with my entire cooling system. I have new timing chains also. Does the Vanos selinoid go bad or is it just the tensioners that I am rebuilding? Thanks for replying
