Starting problem

Hi every body;
My e39 2002 was running completely normal till yesterday night, today I tried to start but it didn't, just hear a click and no cranking sound. Although the battery seemed to be normal, I thought it may be the dead and tried jump starting but no thing happened.
Is it the starter motor or what? Any advice?

Thank you.

What is the overnight battery voltage? Have you checked the battery post and ground connections for being clean and tight?

Thank you Edjack for your reply, after deeper check, I found the battery fine but the grounding to the starter motor loose. Tightening a nut solved the problem.

Thanks again.
