Question There's a GHOST in my 528i!!!!

:e eps:
2000 528i sedan, automatic. - dad's car - wtf is happening LOL

Couple weeks ago his radio stopped working (was not getting any power)... he found out how to fix it today - showed me and it blew my mind!

the head unit would have no power and is black, even with the car on... pushing buttons does nothing. He brought down the passenger sun visor, and slid open the mirror to cut on the mirror light and the steering wheel moved from driver position to "car off" then back then off then back and stopped. He closed the mirror and flipped it up then flipped it down again and slid the mirror open and pow! the head unit got power. The driver side brake light bulb out "warning light" is on the little car in the speedo display but all the brake lights work. Also, the other week i took it for a spin (still no power to radio) and when i started it, it showed me the transmission warning light on the dash, restarted it and it never came back.

So ghost in the car or is this a common short somewhere? Haha thanks!

EDIT: I scanned the car today and no DTC's or anything. all checked out fine.

Replace your ignition switch. Search for why.

No ghost, just the regular run of the mill electrical gremlim, which is caused by the ignition switch. Replace it or rebuild it. There is a ignition switch rebuild DIY on bimmerforums.
