track tire/wheel setup 18x9.5

Hey guys, I'm looking for some track wheels for an e46 m3, trying to go with a square 18x9.5 wheel setup. I know this is a very popular setup for tracking/autocrossing (staggered can cause more understeer..?) but I can't seem to find if I would need to modify the suspension/roll the fenders. According to tire rack the front axle can only take a 8.5 inch wide wheel before it starts rubbing/problems occur. This may be sort of a noob question, but I can't find a direct answer. Will a 18x9.5 et~35 setup cause problems on an otherwise stock car?
