1997 740iL phone/radio problem?

Hi all!
My dad and i purchased our first BMW on Saturday, a 740iL. So far we love the car but we are having an issue and we have no clue what we are doing.
My dad accidentally hit a button (The number 5) on the car phone with his elbow. This has for some reason completely disabled the radio, and we cant seem to turn the phone off. To add to this, all of the screens are pixelated, so we cant see really what the buttons we press in an attempt to fix it are actually doing. On the phone we have pressed both clear and end, with no avail. We really like to listen to music, so this is making the car not as fun for us. Thanks in advance for any help!

You could disconnect the battery and reset the system. Or go to e38.org everything you will need.

Agreed. Give the car a 'battery nap'. Disconnect the cables and touch them together for a few moments. This will drain any residual energy from the modules. This is known to fix many electrical 'glitches' in this car. I would then unplug the phone until you can research where the fuses are and such. As suggested, e38.org is a great place to start. I went so far as to remove the module for the phone in the trunk. Congrats on the purchase!

Thank you guys so much! I will be sure to do this tomorrow. So far its really the only issue we have with the car. one other little thing is that the interior piece for the sunroof keeps going too far back, but we can just sort of fish it out. Its not a big deal at all.
