Padding for Door Storage Compartment

One of my complaints about the X1 is the lack of storage in the cabin for things such as parking passes, loose change, sunglasses, etc. In any event, a fair amount of stuff is going to end up in the door storage compartment and I have already discovered an issue that is going to drive me crazy.

The only thing I have in the door storage compartment right now is a pair of sunglasses. Anytime I accelerate, stop, or turn, the sunglasses go sliding the length of the storage compartment.

I am thinking about lining the door storage compartments with some sort of padding to help cut down on the sliding and to dampen the sound if things do slide (felt or rubber or something similar). Is there an aftermarket part just for this? If not, has anyone tackled a similar project on their own?

I couldn't find it on PEP Boys, but i picked up a stack of Black Microfiber cloth like this. I stuffed it inside the door compartment and cup holder (to absorb the sweat from bottles). It turned out that just simply doing that stopped my badges (for work) from sliding back and forth.

Go to HD and get a rubber router pad. Cut it to fit the bottom of the compartment. Anything set on it will not move. If it loses it's tack, it's dirty. Run it warm water and dry, it's good to go. Also good in the hatch, I keep a roll and use in under things and between hings I'm carrying to stop rattles and keep them in place.

You can also try plain old tool box liner or drawer liner.

The people that drive with me need the hand grabs. Its my way to gauge how fast I am really going without looking at the speedo.

We cut up a black yoga mat and ran it under the elastic strap and up the other side. Effectively it is a hammock.

I decided to go with this for now (very inexpensive and easy to cut).

Things on top of it do not slide around, which is a positive. The mat itself does slide a bit in the door since it is non-adhesive. But, seems to be working so far.

Would have gone with the router mat but Lowe's didn't have any when I stopped in.
