Thumbs up NAV in my 2013 MB E350 blows away one in my 2012 X3

Just purchased a 2013 MB E350 Cabriolet and I am amazed at how much better the NAV is in thr Benz than in my X3. No comparison. Screen resolution, speaks all street names, split screens in color showing next few exits, etc. You name it. How I wish the NAV in the X3 was like this. Notifies me of traffic on the GSP telling me of traffic between forward exits as well as how fast the traffic is moving between those exits. Fantastic.

Well it least your Benz has one good thing about it

Does it have the wind scarf feature - that would give it a second good thing!

Glad you are enjoying your new ride.

Have you gotten the Nav update on your '12 X3? Do a search on this forum, but I think there is an SIB that covers it.

I am happy that you enjoy your MB. You are comparing a 2013 MB to a 2012 BMW. The 2014 X3 with SOP of April 1, 2013 has an iDrive and nav with upgraded software, upgraded nav, high resolution screen, faster graphics processor, faster processor, more RAM, and larger hard drive. I am quite happy with it.

In all fairness, the NAV in my recently sold 2006 SC 430 (other than the screen resolution) was better than the NAV in my 2012 X3. (in fact, so was the NAV in the 2007 Honda CRV).
The NAV's in the MB, Lexus, & CRV never once had the location of the car in an incorrect place right on start up. Many times, the BMW had me driving on incorrect roads on start up until it righted itself in a few minutes. All 3 mute the volume of the music when the NAV speaks which is something that the BMW does not do. Don't get me wrong, I love this X3. To me, the NAV is the weak link in this otherwise great auto. THE MB is a fantastic ride. Sold the Lexus for it. Obviously, it doesn't handle like a BMW, but I didn't expect it too. More luxury than sport. But after the Lexus, it sure feels sporty. I was going to wait for the 2014 4 series, but decided to try something new. I didn't feel like jumping from one car into the other and having the interior look almost the same. It was time for something different.
Yes, the airscarf is fantastic.

Is it a new version or something? I checked out the COMMAND system in the E class (was a '12 at the time) before buying the X3 and it felt like a relic from an old time. The iDrive seemed years ahead. Though I'm definitely jealous of the new iDrive in the '14 X3.

I have no idea. This is my first MB. The NAV is definitely much better than the one in my X3 in every way except screen size.

BMW navigation is a pure garbage. a $100 Tomtom portable GPS does way better job.

Tell that to roadkillrob below. I seem to have offended him personally with my negative criticism of the BMW NAV versus the MB.

I have a 2014 X3 and love the upgraded nav pro system. HD graphics, faster and accurate location, quick, split screen, etc. Everything that you love on your MB. Glad that I waited for the 2014 model

I was just kidding (It is a BMW forum, we can't have you talking smack about our beloved machines!) - the 2014 Nav is a step up from previous years, but in general BMW nav has been at the bottom of the heap for functionality. It seems to be catching up a bit - I now can even have weather in my NAV, just like Acura added 5 years ago!
