NO spare in the F01?

I still run my E66. Im on this forum because Im thinking of picking up the F01 soon. I was very surprised to find out that there is no spare tire in the trunk. I know that F01 uses runflats but still - what if you are in the middle of nowhere and bmw roadside is 3 hrs away. You are stock. Doesnt that bother anyone? I know that some of you changed tires to regular tires - what do you do if you get a flat?

don't surprise... here is something else, the F01 doesn't have double glazing windows like the E66 and you'll get "Drivetrain" a lot with the 750 .

Stick with the E66

Yeah, Im reading more and more negatives. Drivetrains, pumps, plasticy interiors, more road noise. So far I have no complaints my own E66 that is why I have not switched yet. Once my E66 will start braking down more and more often - I will switch over. Im just in love with the twin turbos and the way the car looks (F01)

I made the switch after 3 E66's. 02, 03, 07. I think the quality was much better, expecially the interior. The speed though and the looks make it almost ok. I have always wanted a mineral white with black nappa and once I found it I bought it. I have had zero issues so far. Definitely is faster for sure!

One plus, but I just swapped out my angel eyes and foglights in under 15 minutes total. That is definitely a plus.

The runflats will go a long way. You'd be surprised. I drove on a flat tire on my 2005 645ci convertible for two weeks with speeds of about 50-60mph without knowing it until the side enforced sidewalls gave in and it wouldn't hold air at all. Chances are, even if you are in the middle of nowhere, the SOS button will get you connected with BMW and they will get a tow out there in an hour or less. I'm on my second F01, and knock on wood, I haven't had any issues.

Just my 2c on the matter. It's more a psychology thing in your head that there is no spare, vs. runflats putting you at risk of being stranded in the middle of nowhere. Right? Let's say you had a spare and you get more than one blow out. What then?

You're fine with the runflats. It's just more pricey though when you replace them.

Also what happens if you get an engine warning? Most folks don't carry a spare engine. Isn't it more a level of inconvenience? Even if you had a flat, you're going to be out at least 30 min or so with a spare. If you need to be somewhere, you get a ride and taxi, then come back for the car (after calling BMW Assist). Or just reschedule your appointments. It's like having your flight delayed.

There are valid points of not using RFT due to ride/performance, but exclusively just because you don't have a backup seems to be more cost than benefit.

I rather change a flat in 7 min than bother with BMW assist, tow trucks, taxi, unnecessary expenses, inconvenience and fact that I will be late to where im going.

I think BMW got rid of spares because they probably think that if you drive a 7 series - you dont want to get your hands dirty. It would not cost BMW that much money to put a spare.

If room was their issue, they should have done what porsche and audi did - Deflated donut. It takes little room in the trunk and you can inflate it within 3 min if you need it. That is something BMW designers should look into.

I just switched from my e65 to the F01 - world of difference. No issues yet and i love it even more than my e65. Interior is much more luxurious. Seats are even better. Engine is faster. Car is quiet. All around better car so far. As for run flats, I switched to non RF yesterday, better ride. And I bought slime

The only reason Bmw goes with runflats is cost savings, no spare and no jack on millions of cars saves them money. To be honest I would wayyy prefer to have a spare that I can swap in 10 mins, than have to wait for some tow truck.

Re: NO spare in the F01?

Yeah the no jack really sucks. I bought a spare for road trips and then found out no jack (should have known) ... Anyhow, ride is rough with run flats. I'm switching to 22's and guessing they will ride the exact same....
