Adaptive Drive system

How expensive is this to fix? How often it can failure? Would CPO warranty cover such defect - i know they don't cover suspension dampers/strut elements.
thanks

it's a crap shoot along with other options but it sure feels better in the meantime. Sorry I don't have the answers.....here's to hoping it never fails.

It is as expensive as any of 20 other systems or components....AC system, compressor, evap, condenser, DVD drive, radio, amp, window motors, sunroof ...alternator... The list goes on and on. I cannot recall anyone reporting it 'broke', although it is still fairly new. Now that i think of it, i did read someone needed to replace the Hydraulically coupled sway bar ....

And you found it. Should be covered by CPO.

In general how long would x5 suspension last ( for any 3.0 model). I would expect to see at least 150k .... Am I dreaming? This is under normal driving condition with easy foot. Thanks

Depends on your personal tolerance... rubber bushes will get tired at 50-75k, everything loosens up. Yoiu could drive it to 150 and have just a mild slop. Most second owners dont know what the car was like new....

suspension depends on the driver and the wheels. 20's will wear it out much faster. nice roads and gentle driving... no bmw suspension will last 150k with out some work. heavy and nimble = wear PS I have only had AD on my e70's and that is one thing that has not caused an issue.

My x5 currently has 152,000 miles, and I had to replace the sway bar @ 20k miles (warranty item), and replaced the upper control arm bushings at 80k. The x5 still handles very well in its old age . Come to think of it, the last 80 k miles have been very trouble free (water pump and maintenance items like diff, transfer case, oil, tranny, and plugs). This x5, first model year, has been an absolute JOY to own OUT OF WARRANTY.

**forgot to mention, I have had 20's on this vehicle since day #1.

I bought my 2012 X5 slightly used with 11k miles on it and although the dealer said it was fully loaded, I'm not 100% sure on a few features.

For example, what is the best way to tell if the adaptive drive is installed? I have the Sport button below the shifter. Does that indicate I have adaptive drive?

How do people generally use this Sport mode? Turn it on for curvy roads when you want to drive fast and off when cruising on the freeway in a straight line?

If you have the sport button you have adaptive suspension. It is always on. When you push the sport button the suspension gets stiffer.

+1

Wouldn't order one without it.

It should be covered under the CPO.

I've had suspension parts replaced under the CPO. Yes, the 20's seem to wear stuff out a bit sooner.
