X5 E70 Tailgate light problem

Wonder if anyone can help as I currently have a problem on my tailgate light which I am not sure how to fix. The car that I have is a BMW X5 E70 2009 and have only done 36k miles, but the tailgate light which is housed in the rear not working and I am getting an error message on the dashboard to say the light are 'out'. How do you change it ? The problem is is on the top light which has been marked on the attached picture.

Those are your fog lights, or adaptive brake lights. There panel on the inside of the trunk may have a pop out to get to the lights. If it doesn't, then you need to remove the entire panel. IIRC, there are some screws and regular trim clips

Thanks. Would you know that once I remove the panel and get access to the light panel, can I just change a bulb or do I need to replace the entire panel.

^^ If its the lines, you will need to change the entire thing. Its a non serviceable LED, If its the adaptive brake light/ fogs, its just a regular bulb that you can change.
