** Paintless Dent Repair Caused Damage **

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for reading my post. Right now I'm feeling very upset, helpless and I really need your suggestions. Three days ago I went for a Paintless Dent Repair to fix couple of door dents. The owner of the shop seems to be a nice person and his local business opened since 1992. For " paintless dent repair" basically they roll down the side window and use a metal rods to slide into the gap (where the glass window was) to push the dents out from the inside of the body panel. It costs $260 to repair a total 4 dents on 3 doors (Left Front, Left Rear, Right Rear). Last night, I noticed there were a lot of deep scratches on the glass which dent repair was applied. Nothing happened on the glass (Right Front) that the dent repair wasn't applied. I stopped by the glass shop "Safelite glass" they told me there is nothing they can do other then replace the glass and it costs $816. I haven't got a chance to talk to the dent repair shop owner as they close during the weekend. I really don't know what to do. Any suggestion are highly appreciated. Please help.

The images are Left Front, Right Rear, Left Rear and the Right front (intact). The average length of the scratch is 4 inches.

I would think that they normally use a protective shield against the glass as in this video:

Maybe there is not enough space to do that in the X3, but I would have thought something was possible after removing the rubber moulding.

See what the shop owner says as you have a strong evidence of wrong doing.

This is good to know. I'll remove whatever interior panel if I ever need DPR work done. Tell them to not drill any holes and to only use the exposed openings.

Bad Workmanship

Sorry you will have to deal with the hassle of asking the dent repair guy to replace your glass but it's clear that he damaged your glass with his tools. If he is a stand up professional he will bite the bullet and replace your glass. He should have insurance for such matters.
I recently had the windshield in my 2005 M3 replaced and the glass installer leaned on the roof in 3 places with his elbow and dented the roof. Jet black paint showed up easily. The glass company denied responsibility and I had to open a claim with my insurance company. They tried to say something must have flown up and hit the roof. Sure, 3 spots with no scratches in the paint. Liars! The dent repair guy used a system that resembled a hot glue gun and a slide hammer to pull the dents out. The repair is perfect.

I have a friend who does this for a living. I have had this done on numerous cars including my X3. He always protects the glass and panel with a rubber apron. This shouldn't even be an issue. Anyway, you can buy glass polish for this sort of thing at a detailer supply shop. Try this place. Great group of people. They should be able to help.
