Why won't dealer change these feature settings?

Having several Lexus' in the past, they always went over feature options. And made changes for me....Now on my 2nd BMW, and liking my new 535, I want these annoying defaults changed. Especially the one where I have to confirm my desire to get out of the car by pulling on the handle twice.

So, will they "code" or change these for me?

If there is a coder in the DC area, please PM me if you want to

Thanks....

I have an F10 and I don't have pull on the handle twice. Please elaborate on your issue.

I'm speaking of the locks. I stop the car and either have to press the door lock button or operate the door handle twice. Other annoyances are I'd like the vehicle to recall my past settings, a/c, lights and other coding options

I got mine coded and it's so much better. One button for off and one pull of the handle...instead of twice for each. It was driving me crazy!

Dealer won't do it as its bmw safety regulation. They can't I guess. Find a coder.

When I stop the car by pressing on start stop my doors unlock, do you have the right settings in yours?
I have my hvac and lights on auto, it is just that that I want, no other coding than that for me, did you read your manual?

Why won't dealer change these feature settings?

The issue is any software update your dealer applies erases your custom coding.

With the US spec, you have to pull on the handle twice, or press the door unlock button.

So if we code are car and the dealer plugs in, then any custom changes are reset?

Will the dealer void the warranty if this is done?

That's only if you have your car to automatically lock the doors upon driving, or manually lock the doors.

BMW uses double-locks thus the double-pull.

The coding to avoid not doing the double-pull is to program the locks to unlock automatically after engine-off -that will take care of the first single-pull. Then a second single-pull by you will be required to open the door.

Dealers are not capable of these type of coding, only factory reps. The forum/internet coders use bootlegged factory-rep software to perform the coding.

Better approach: don't lock the doors when you're in the car!

Raleedy, you have repeated that message. First of all, the car locks itself. Second of all, unless you live in Mayberry it is safer to have your doors locked.

Only if you have it set that way.

As noted above, the car locks itself only if you have set it that way. And locked doors don't provide any real security (unless you have the armored model). For my money, those of you who set the doors to auto-lock are creating your own problem. This is a message that bears repeating as often as this issue comes up. I haven't started any threads on it.

I disagree, a lock door do provide a certain degree of security, not all criminal is going to shoot thru your windows. That's like saying a lock door in your house do not provide any security.

House or car, the door lock is mostly good for when you're not behind the locked door. I wouldn't say it's no help at all, but it's little enough. For me the benefits are outweighed by the disadvantages -- having to unlock for people you want to let in, and so on. Maybe people won't shoot their way in, but once you see the gun, are you going to count on that? Someone wants to get in my car and take it, I'm going to let them. I have insurance against the loss.

Speak for yourself...ever have a 3 year old open a door in motion...? For many people the doors need to be locked while driving.

This isn't about some nitwit trying to strongarm your car away with his gun out.

The point is that in a severe roll over-type accident, the chances of the doors remaining closed are much better if the doors are locked. Your chances of surviving something like this degrade rapidly if the doors fly open and you get thrown out.
