More HP in later 2013 production cars?

SA told me today that there are roughly 45 more HP in newer production cars on the 550i. Is that true?

I believe that the 2014 models will have the extra HP, so not available until later this summer.

He may have been trying to sell you a late 2013 build instead of having you wait for a 2014. The 550 gets a new engine for 2014, and it has 45 more HP, 25 more lb/ft of torque (IIRC) and better mileage. It's the engine that the 6 and 7 already have.

Not that the 550 really needed any more power. I sort of wish they had worked on the N55 instead.

Not exactly a new engine, but they updated the N63 and called it N63TU (Technology Update).

They actually have an updated N55 as well called N55HP (High Performance?) that adds 15HP and 30 lb-ft. This is the engine that's in the 2013 740i (LCI). But for some reasons they didn't want to put this in the LCI 535

Or the F32 either, according to what I've read.

At the Welt in December when I picked up my 550, two different BMW folks told me independently that my car had 445 hp.

Now, I've never run that down, dyno'd my car or found a pre 2013 550 in a stick to compare the driving too. So I'm not sure if they were just mistaken or if there is more HP in my car than BMW claims publicly. But, I can say that the car is really fast and it puts a grin on my face every time I drive it.

This was put to bed a while ago. 2013 550i did not have the N63TU. Dinan confirmed this as they say there is no tune for the N63TU.

Possibly because they don't want to call it 540 or 340? Doesn't 640 have the 315HP version as well?

I think I follow your logic - but there has been a 535 in the past also; I believe it was an E34 V8.

The E34 535i was an I6 while the E34 530i and 540i were V8's (M60B30 and M60B40 engines). If I remember, BMW had worked on a 4 liter I6 at the time but opted to go for a V8 for marketing reasons.
