Where is the turn signal relay?

I just bought a 1986 e28 and the turn signals don't work. The previous owner claimed he could press something on the relay and make the turn signals work. I bought a relay from Advance Auto Parts but I can't find the relay on the car. I've done an internet search and the only thing I can find is that the relay is near the steering column. I removed the dash lower cover but couldn't find anything that looked like the 3 prong relay i bought. Can anyone give me more specific info?

Take off the lower steering column trim and the relay will be in about the center of the column assembly.

The Electrical Troubleshooting Manual is a good thing to have on hand: http://www.wedophones.com/Manuals/BM...g%20Manual.pdf
