Confused On Driving Modes and Dashboard Display

I have a 2013 535xi GT on order. (US car). I was looking at the owners manual online and it referred to sport and sport + and comfort and comfort +. When I test drove the car, I am sure that I only saw normal, sport and comfort (no +). Also, the manual also showed that in sport setting the dashboard display changes to a digital speedometer readout. Is this accurate?
Can someone help clear these up?

Thank you

I think if you read it carefully, you'd find that Sport+ only shows up if you have the optional sports package.

I experienced this issue in Munich when we went to pick our car up.
Our new 2013 5501 GT with M-Sport had only ECO. COMFORT, and SPORT selections and we were fully expecting to see the SPORT+ and COMFORT +.

We were told that those only are included if you order the Dynamic Damper Control when we asked why they were not included. I had asked our CA at least 3 times if we should add DDC and was always told there is no real need for it ... sigh ... the only "selection" that we won't be able to recreate is COMFORT + as SPORT+ can be achieved by selecting sport and turing off traction control (a button just above the selector).

For the $1,000 we would have added it. The car drove beautifully but seems a bit incomplete without this and may affect resale.

BTW our vehicle will finally be here at the dealer on the 29th and we are looking forward to driving it again.

In case you were wondering, Dynamic Damper Control is option ZDD and is part of the Dynamic Handling Package ZDH. It can be ordered separately as Option 223. DHP includes Adaptive Drive and Active Roll Stabilization.

I'm not positive but if you don't have DHP there's fewer things you can configure for Sport+.

p.s. The packaging is altogether different on the 2014. DDC is not available as a separate option.

Thanks for the replies. What about the display in Sport? Does it become digital?

Thanks

Are you referring to the multifunction instrument display? It doesn't seem that LCI GT or sedan in the US will get that. However, it'll be standard equipment in the 2014 7 series (except Alpina B7).

This might be something that could be enabled via programming. Visit the coding forum and see if anyone knows. The display is likely identical to those sold elsewhere, and if so, then it's probably just changing a few(?) software switches. Just like in most countries, locking the car folds the mirrors in, but in the USA that's defaulted off. It can be enabled via changing a value in the programming, along with lots of other items like what's displayed in the HUD, turning off the safety warnings about the NAV, etc.

The display does not change in Sport or Sport+ mode. There is no digital display of the speed.
The only visible digital indication of the speed is via the Heads Up Display which occurs regardless of the driving mode.

The dash with the digital readout is shown in the 2014 GT beauty video from BMW and I attached a frame from it. That shows the 6WB LED dash available in Europe but not the US in MY2013. No place in the US order guide does it mention 6WB for the GT nor does it list the 6WA as standard. The 2013 order guide was the same and in the US, the GT only came with the 6WA dash.

The F10 order guide for 2014 DOES list 6WA as the dash but no 6WB. It will be interesting to see if the GT gets the 6WB dash in 2014 by virtue of it's 7 series inheritance.

There's a huge amount of customizable functions in the vehicle's programming. Many of the things are defaulted to off for delivery to the USA, but the vehicle can perform those functions. Now, it obviously also needs whatever hardware support to do anything should you 'flip' the switch to try to make it work. There's a lot of info that can be added to the HUD, various things can be changed to become the new default, and the list goes on and on. So, and do this at your own risk, there are instructions or people that can help you make changes - it requires a special cable and software for your pc (some really significant sized data files) and enough info to be dangerous.

What I meant by dangerous is that there are enough parameters you can change that you may end up with a vehicle that does some weird things, and if you don't understand what you're doing, you may not be able to restore the original, or a preferred working result. Some people are just not designed to be programmers. It's not particularly hard if you understand.

In my 2012 GT 535I I have the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT + on a toggle switch next to the shifter. Here is what I feel in ride difference. The vehicle auto reset to comfort when vehicle is turned off. However while in Comfort drive the car rides like it is a limo very solid and heavy like feel. One touch into Sport it becomes a race car. "Truly" no joking, You will notice an RPM change of about 2000 more RPM's. The sound of the car also changes from a soft and quite to a open exgzuest pipes with more bit sound. Trust me you will love it.
