fault finding an electrical short?????????

G'day FOLKS,

Long time, no visit to this site....... been struggling to figure why the battery is draining on my 1987 e28 535i and came across this doozie???????

The left pic using this doodad gizmo shows that a minimal drain is coming from this wire coming off the positive terminal of the battery...... the middle pic show the actual wire from the battery and the right pic shows an almost 500 milliamp drain... surprisingly it is coming from the metal panel below the actual wire...... Now as to where these red wires actually go I do not know...... any advice as to where I go from here would be greatly appreciated and grateful for the help......

Thanks a plenty

Ok first put your meter to track current draw in the same spot as you show in the first pic. Make sure everything is off. If you still have a current flow remove fuses one by one till it goes away. This will identify what circuit is having a problem. Then use the manual to track it down from there.
