Oil Pump Failure?

My 97 M3 conked out at idle. It was short a quart of oil , i refilled then when i started it there was nasty clanking. Mechanic said its the bearing on the crankshaft probably caused by oil pump failure. Has anyone heard of similar problems with these engines? 135,000 regular oil changes?? Is it worth fixing it?

The loose oil pump pulley nut syndrome is well documented.
Having it locked is a frequent recommendation if the various internet buyers guides are researched.

Rod bearings and main bearings will need to be replaced.
