Dinan for N20 supposedly end of summer

Just went back to the dealer for my inspection and car intro that I didn't have time for on Friday and the delivery coordinator said that there's a Dinan tune for the N20 that one of the folks at the dealer with an X1 is in the test program for and they're expecting it to be ready for customers end of summer.

Here's hoping!

Hope it's cheaper than the tune for the N55 engine. $2000 yikes!

Don't forget that, unlike JB4 and other piggybacks, Dinan warrantees the motor. Pay to play.

Having driven turbos for the past several years I got to thinking about what to expect from the tune... The closest comparable is the Lancer Evo's 2l turbo that produces 291hp and 300 lb/ft of torque. I don't see any reason we should expect less from Dinan or that it's an especially crazy amount of power to ask from the engine.

Anybody with experience with this tune? Can it be easily installed and removed like the BMS tune? I'm thinking about when you have to trade in the car. Would be nice to sell it to make some cash back rather than giving it to the dealer.

The Dinan tunes are an ECU flash and can be transferred to another vehicle. My boss had a 335i leased and got another one in 2009 and was able to transfer the Dinan flash. I don't know about transferring to another owner.

It's not available yet but hopefully will be in the next couple months. I'll be in line to get one once it is.

curious if the N20 tune is out yet? Didn't see it on the Dinan site.

Dinan says...

I asked Dinan yesterday of their plans for the N20. The reply suggested that they are focusing on the F30. They are working on it, but "as these cars are massively more complicated than their predecessors, it is taking time".

Here was the response i got from Dinan sales rep 2 days ago.

"Software for these vehicles is currently under development. I don't have anything available just yet, unfortunately."

Hope it comes out soon!

I'd guess they're running into the issues with the stress limits of the engine mentioned in another thread.

What kind of issues?

Starting to think this may not happen for this engine.

I can't imagine many people will pay this. You could just get the X35 and have the same power or better and not have to worry about excess wear on your engine. It isn't much more and dealers seem to knock a lot more off the 35 versions and you would probably get most of that money back come trade in time.

Or get a BMS JB4 for the N20. Performance like the n55 X1, for $400.

The N20 tune will cost you since they match the factory warranty something no other tuner does. If it was me and I did not own the 35i I would pony the money upfront and buy the 35i. If you want the power of the N55 just buy the 35i and be done with it.
