2012 328i or a 2013 volvo s60 t6 r design

I now have a tough decision.

I can either purchase a 2012 328i or a 2013 volvo s60 t6 r design for virtually the same price. Both are CPO vehicles with mileage in the teens. Both are at a great price, otd mid thirties.

I've read other posts comparing the 335i to the s60 r design, I think it's a no brainer for the 335i at that point. But I'm not sure with the 328i in terms of performance fun factor.

The specific 328I has premium and technology (no BMW apps however).
The r design has everything but no navigation (it can stream bluetooth pandora etc).

I prefer the interior fit and finish and look inside and out of the 328i bit I'm wondering if it would be silly to not go with the 325 HP 354 torque when given the chance...

Thoughts? (yes I know this is a bimmer forum)

Have you driven either of them?

We test-drove a 2011 S60 T6 before getting a 328i, and the BMW was significantly more fun to drive. The Volvo had decent power but didn't feel like it had any more than the 328i, the suspension wasn't as responsive, and the transmission responded glacially slowly. I have no personal experience with the 2013 R Design though.

Drive both. That should be the determining factor.

I agree I need to drive both back to back. It was about a week ago I drove the 328i and the r design was yesterday. My biggest recollection of driving the 328 was that it put a smile on my face. I used that drive to rule out the A4 and C250. It seems the decision may come down to picking the advantage in finesse or power. I do find the 328 much more visually appealing inside and out...and the r design is smurf blue...

Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into the Volvo when you feel that the BMW is more to your liking and enjoyment. IMO, if you get the smurf machine, you will look at other 3ers and pine away, yet if you go with the 3, I bet you wont notice any S 60 that happens to be on the road.

Mein Auto: Traded M5 for Volt!?!?
About 18 months ago we looked for a small SUV for my wife and it came down to the Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and BMW X3. She ended up with the XC60 R-Design. I have to admit, the power is seamless and addictive. The X3s at that time had the stupid throttle response/hesitation issue and that really was a deal killer. We had a loaner XC60 T6 AWD a week or so ago, and I was not as impressed as I had hoped I would be. I believe the R-Design package makes all the difference on these cars. The power is only 25 hp and about 30 lbds feet more than a regular T6, but the throttle mapping is better and it just feels livelier. Still, I think the XC60 competes better in its class against the X3/Q5 than the S60 does against the 3 series. If I had to pick on a challenging downside for the S60 it would be the 6 speed automatic. It just doesn't appear to be as refined as the 8 speeds from ZF in the Germans.

p.s. I do LOVE that smurf blue though! Rebel Blue FTW!

Mpg of the t6 is nowhere near a 328.

Here's my breakdown of advantages on each side, ultimately another back to back drive tomorrow will have to be the deciding factor. As price is the same I didn't include that line item. I would note that if the bmw had a luxury or modern package in addition to premium & technology it would seal the deal for me. If anyone knows of a CPO with Lux/Modern, Technology, & Premium - out the door for no more than $35K - let me know but I can't find one.

With all due respect, it is not about a list of features. For 35K, it is about how you feel when you are driving it, and what you feel when you look at it after you drive it.
