Wow, I love this thread!!! I am going to be doing a build as well soon. I am going to stay stock though. If you don't mind me asking, but what all should be bought new when doing an engine build? I want to start budgeting now. I know injectors, seals, spark plugs, bearings, gaskets, belts, head bolts and washers, and VANOS, but anything else? It's a M50B25 engine.

It all depends on the condition of the motor when you take it apart buddy.

Some motors need new bearings and others don't you know.

Update

Got the dssr lever finally and also got the elbow welded for 3 inch over the subframe piping.

Checked the clearance before I got the elbow fully welded with the rallyroad lower arm and looks good.

Thats not bad man, I spent 3k to do a 5speed swap in the rice bucket.. And the dump out the hood would not be bad if it had some kind of vent. That is my plan to get a 02 dump out the factory vent..Good work man

Thats the turbo in the way, had to notch the trans a little.
And that is welded there is no tape in tbat picture at all, its a short shifter for a euro 6 speed, on the trans if feells crazy solid really tight and crisp.

Thanks bro!

Won't ever be done really, have to max out the turbo and do corvette brakes as well as new poly bushings all around and install my black interior, then my m3 bumper and skirts and paint.

Waiting on my clutch setup to come back from falcon clutch, I dropped it all of there to they can make the pressure plate clamp harder and hold more power.

Sounds great! I would bump up the idle a little bit though. :/

Little update of things I got done before bimmerfest.

Did all the charge piping, incase anybody wants to know what a 3 inch hot side pipe routed over the subframe looks like I took a pic, and I went to get my maf flange and bov flange welded on my charge pipe but most of the shops were busy, thankfully my place of choice wasn't.

I dropped in my walbro 485 fit great and I drove the car with the gauge below empty to make sure I mounted it low enough and she kept on going!

also I re torqued my arp's

and I took about 3 to 4 days torquing the head down on the stand and after 500 miles each stud took a little less than .25 of a turn but it was enough to remind me to do it every time.

when I pulled my coil packs out I noticed that 3 were filled with water to the top, dried it out and swapped the plugs.

so this video is the car on 3 or 4 cyl

this is the correct idle sound

now pics of the progress
Walbro 485

In the factory basket

100lb injectors from south bay fuel injectors

The red sled showing off that 31x12x4 inch core

pre torque

After 85ft lbs

went to a local welding shop around the corner from my house

these women do good work

3 inch over the subframe piping

Is having such high compression the reason you have to re- torque the head? Or is it a requirement for all turbo setups?

HC is just to make more power and better spool.

You should always re torque head studs, they will loosen over time, especially with thick MLS head gaskets.
