Horn problem

So, suddenly my precious lady seems to want to toot her horn at very random times. While, driving going in straight line the horn starts blaring. While turning, horn will start blaring. Tapping/pounding on horn pad will not stop this. Turning off car will not stop this. Honestly, I don't know what ever makes it shut up really. And boy does it get you attention! The cops just love it! Which is another story in itself. Has anyone experienced this before? Is this the horn contact ring? Car has 200583 miles on the clock.

Re: Horn problem

Downhiller, thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately I must show my ignorance as this is my first BMW ever. Are you suggesting I shoot my lady with a .357? All kidding aside I haven't a clue what you are recommending. Could you elaborate further please? You have been most helpful in the past and I look forward to your response.

you can cut or unplug it from under the hood or disassemble the steering wheel and replace the contact ring

Re: Horn problem

OK, will try the unplug just to save my butt. And then order contact ring and replace. Thanks for the help.

I would suspect a chafed wire rather than the horn ring/contacts themselves.
