How does the 2013 Acura RDX drive?

Hi, I am just wondering how does the new 2013 Acura RDX drive. The basic engine is 273 HP 3.5 liter V6 with zero to 60 in 6 seconds, mpg is 20/28.... the numbers make 28i's N20 engine looks bad. Does anyone have experience with it?

Yes, bought a brand new one with tech package; couldn't stand how it drove after a month and traded it in for a 2011 x3 xdrive35i and haven't looked back. I haven't driven the 28i so not sure how that would compare. The RDX feels lethargic and yes, the numbers look good on paper but in the real world it's a different story. The way it's tuned (I guess for better gas mileage) gives you almost no power in everyday driving. The suspension was also really noisy to me and I couldn't stand that you can't use the nav while driving. Nice car, but not fun to drive . . . At least for me.

And I don't know where u saw 0-60 in six seconds. Best I saw was 6.5 seconds with some reviews claiming more than 7 seconds.

It was a nice, smart drive. Comfortable. Power is good. The magnetic dampers do smoothen out road imperfections. However, I found it crammed and lacking the driving feel. Ultimately I got the X3 with some aggressive dealing to reconcile the price premium

I haven't driven the RDX, but my guess is that the N20 will be just as fast, if not faster, in many real-world driving situations thanks to its greater and more accessible torque and eight-speed (vs. six speed) automatic to keep the revs in the sweet spot. Also, the 20/28 EPA numbers are for FWD. The AWD numbers are just a touch lower (although still impressive for a big V6) for the RDX at 19/27/22, while the X3 is at 21/27/23 according to BMW's website. The N20 achieves this even while dragging around 200 extra lbs. as the X3 is heavier than the RDX.

We test drove the RDX 2 months ago when we were deciding which SUV to buy. Like others have said, the RDX's numbers look comparible to the X3, but thats not the case in real life. The X3's turbo feels a bit sportier than the RDX. Handling wise, its like night and day, the RDX pales in comparison. The deal breaker for us was that the RDX's front passenger seat has no height adjustment. Thats all fine and dandy in some case but the RDX's passenger seat is set too low. I fell like I was almost sitting on the floor with my knees up to my chest. It was the most uncomfortable passenger seat I have even sat in, it must have been design for people who is 5 feet tall or under.

test drove one and found it had the numbest steering that I can recall. Don't care if it was 0-60 in 4 flat--handled like crap IMHO.

Well they are just Honda CR-V's/ Civic's after all. Even with all the lipstick $10k diff is to close IMO.

I had 2013 RDX and honestly it was a good car but no frills and yes reliability would have been bullet proof - just fill it, shut it and drive it kinda. I had AWD with tech pkg and I got 28-30 on highway and 20 in city. Did not like the navi lockout while driving - great grief. No HVAC in rear no exterior lighting, seating is low compared to other SUVs. If you need point A to B car with very comfort, space and reliability then you can not go wrong with this one
I sold it more gadgets and the SOLID drive of this bimmer

+10 on that. Forgot to mention that. Yes the X3 flies with those paddle shifters!!!!

If you are looking to buy, do it right and just get the xdrive35i. Then there is absolutely no question, it's a much more enjoyable car to drive

We considered both the MDX and the RDX. If you think a Civic is a comparable car to a 3 series you may think an RDX is a better value than an X3. Similar to a lot of premium label Jap cars, and I've owned many, just adding leather, tech and some other upgrades doesn't change it into a car in the same playing field IMO.

We came from a CR-V and it was the best car I ever owned on a cost per month basis. Bought it 3 years old and kept for 3 and cost just over $115 per month. The Mileage was terrible, just slightly better than our 35i, it was sluggish and felt top heavy as well. Very dependable as is my experience with the better Jap products but the RDX is not the same class of vehicle as an X3 but they sell a lot of them.

When they dumped the 4 cyl turbo (with its lag) and added the very nice corporate V6 it changed. Well worth looking at if you want a nice dependable cute ute. You really can't compare the "old" RDX with the new repowered and reworked current offering. Just like the new Jeep GC the old one had significant issues the new one is much different and so far seems much better.

Have you actually driven the 2013 or are you just assuming how it drives because it's a v6 now? I bought one, drove it for a month, and couldn't stand it! No it's not turbo, so there is no "turbo" lag but the way it's tuned, it's worse than turbo lag. There is no real power until you get 4500 RPM . . . . definitely not that useable in the real world. It feels like it has turbo lag the way it's tuned. . . Acura went so far overboard making sure it got good gas mileage they forgot to make it fun to drive. Believe, I'm as disappointed as anyone. I lost a ton in the deal to get out of it . . . but life's short and I wasn't going to be stuck with a car I didn't like.

My wife has a CR-V. The RDX is a CR-V in a suit with more gadgets and a more powerful engine.

But it is a CR-V, really. Not that there is anything wrong with a CR-V, we even have one. But it is just not in the same discussion with a BMW X.

Climb -- yes I actually drove one for an hour and found it quite impressive. Not as impressive however as the FX37 that I drove later that day however. I think both of them would qualify as X3 competitors too. Just my opinion and we all have one. Sorry you lost a ton of coin on your swap -- I have done that and it still bothers me a decade later.

Before buying my 2012 x3, I had bought a 2013 RDX. It drove well but as mentioned, the suspension was noisy, the handling was ok. For the price it was a good vehicle but when I drove the x3 and realized that the fuel economy was very similar, I cancelled the RDX and dished out more money to get the x3. I do not regret my my purchase as I am extremely satisfied with the x3. Yes it has less power 3 litre v6 compared to a 3.5 litre v6 for the RDX but it is smooth and has an 8 speed transmission vs six speed for the RDX.
