E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

proper wheel size for E30?

I am shopping wheels and currently have original 14" bottle caps. 16" wheels have more options and have a better look than 15" IMO.

but can anyone provide input on how 15" and 16" affect the driving behavior vs the stock 14"?

i'd make an effort to get the lightest wheels regardless of size probably in the 14-16 lb range.

I might get this car to Road America or BIR eventually for DE/DT events if that has any bearing.

thanks.

Sport E30s came on 15" wheels, the E30 M3 came on 16" wheels. Also depends on your tyre choice, are you using a tyre with a stiffer sidewall like a potenza reoo1 or a softer sidewall? 17s are also an option but the ride starts to get harsh, and in some states/countries, amd increase in wheel diameter of 3" may be illegal

Imho, 16s are the way to go so long as you get a light weight wheel

Re: proper wheel size for E30?

I've been waiting for a post regarding this as well. Will 16" in wheels bolt right up? Or are spacers or other modifications needed. I currently have stock 14" 4 lug wheels and want to switch to 16's

Stick with et20-25mm (offset) rims in 7-7.5 inch widths if you don't want to mount pulled/stretched tires. 16x8s et20 fit flush, but requires rolled fender lips and stretched tires. The 16x8s will also tuck nicely if your ride is lowered.
