E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Bad Valve Adjustment Symptoms?

Recently did a valve adjustment on my 1990 325i, because the very very noisy valve train bugged the hell out of me. so I adjusted my valves to the .010 inch as required, and id go to start it up and let it idle and the idle just goes completely crazy. To be specific, the idle sounds like im running high-roller cams. and the idle drops and bogs quickly when I tap the throttle. For the record, ive adjusted my valves about 5 times now trying to get it right. its very frustrating because before the adjustment, the idle was fine... Now, the idle is sporadic, and my check engine light comes on at idle after its been warmed up. I could really use some help here! Nobody wants to have a stubborn running e-30. I can answer any questions that you have that can potentially help me out. any input is greatly appreciated!

How's your rocker cover gasket? How about the vacuum hoses? That sounds much more like a vacuum leak (especially the CEL) rather than valve adjustment. If you are even in the neighborhood of a correct valve adjustment, it won't negatively affect the idle.

You mean my valve cover gasket? I replaced that on the last valve adjustment, and nothing changed. I did some looking around at my vacuum hoses, and I think you're right. Many of the hoses are cracked, including the main intake boot on both ends. So ill new to replace that and see how that does.
Thank you for the info!
