I have a 1998 528i recently when it rains and only when it rains my car starts running real rough and check engine light comes on and car dies as soon as it stops raining car runs fine and check engine light goes off. The computer read out tells me 4cyl have miss fired. It seems like I must have an exposed wire some place that when gets wet freaks out a sensor. where do I start

Hi Tpurso,

I recently had misfire issues with my engine and they were related to the injector connections - I would check all wiring leading to injectors (assuming yours is fuel injected - I have no idea about that particular car/engine) and also your wiring for your coils/spark plugs as well.

If the misfire code is always for cylinder 4, then it should be localized to somewhere near cylinder 4. If it changes to other cylinders, then there might be a wiring issue closer to the ECU (computer) or near the ignition coil (if the engine has a coil pack that services all spark plugs).

Hope that helps.
