Funny thread.

Everyone's pretty much listed everything that has irritated me.

One I don't think people mentioned is, "this is a great car". Subjective at best

I have bought and sold a lot of cars using Craigslist... Specific to BMWs I can't stand the following....

- Car is dirty, paint is not maintained, interior is trashed yet description heralds the car as clean or near mint..
- Dings are actually DENTS / Damage when you arrive to look at it.
- Listed as no leaks when we all know these cars are never 100% leak free.. As soon as you fix your power steering the valve covers start again...
-Greasy interior.. Anyone who actually enjoys a detailed car knows the interior shouldnt be slippery.. clean but not greasy.
- If you say maintainance records since _ _ _ _ then have them available... Also what about BEFORE _ _ _ _..
- Don't claim clean carfax, carfax is a joke.. Has it been wrecked, or repaired?? Not did carfax get notified..
- Mix matched tires... Hate that.
-Bad tires... Hate that more.. But I don't like brand new because I would like to see suspension wear..
- Bad tint.
-Quoting KBB/NADA those are a joke too.. Cars are worth what someone will pay.
-Custom parts don't always = more value.. Often the reverse as far as I am concerned.. Unless we are talking properly tuned turbo/supercharger installations.
-Dinan/M badges on non M equipped cars..

SO much more...

These three are definitely the worst.

More specificly quoting KBB on a non running car... What do old people say "what does the price of tea in china have to do with your car"

Custom parts that people brag about example custom paint job. 1. You know it was the cheapest paint job ever. 2. It's usually outrageous in a bad way.

When I'm looking at a car I'm assuming it clean unless they state otherwise. It's nothing to brag about.

That's the thing when I'm looking at cars, I want the most amount of information about your car not someone else's car. I hate details that don't matter like power heated seat or power adjusting mirrors this is all about e39s I know it maybe different on some other Honda. Every e39 has leather power seats. Tell me something that is different about your car I.e. how long you owned it, how you replaced the cooling system (but not the cost of replacing it), how your car is worth the price tag.

What do you NOT like to see in a Craigslist Ad for a bimmer

It always amazes me the amount of advertisements I see where the seller can't spell, uses poor grammar, can't identify parts correctly, etc.

I used CL to look at and test drive quite a few cars and ultimately found mine on Auto Trader.

Cool you're graduating, but CL doesn't need a reason. That is also one hell of a confusing "sentence".

Parked on gravel or other non paved surfaces

Even if a blind man felt those "minor" dents he'd say those are NOT minor... Anyone that thinks those are minor is smoking meth.

98 Beemer. Long and FAST, 140mph no problem. Needs new front and rear plastic bumper cover, as well as inside door elbow rest. The dog chewed it up. Also needs head gasket.
Rims alone are worth $1600, for the most part car is in ok condition. If you are handy it can be a daily driver, a head gasket on this car costs $900 to put in, I would do it, however, I just do not have the time. Would like to get it out of the driveway, she will make it home.
200,XXX miles, will go to 500,XXX, its German, it is a pimp ass ride!

I've bought and sold more than a few vehicles on craigslist and by FAR my biggest pet peeve is improper grammar/poor spelling. If I read an ad that has more than a couple of minor mistakes, I move on.

Some ads do make for interesting reading, though.

Those rims are worth $1600... Why because he said they are worth that much. They are the the rare mass produced 16 inchers BBS alloys.

"Artsy" pictures. Generally shot as to hide all the imperfections.

Clutter on the floorboards/dash. Take 5 minutes and clean your junk man!

Any MPG claim....

Close ups, but no wide shots.

Sub boxes

low res pictures

Add is still up WEEKS after it was sold....

I was looking to purchase a set of winter tires, found some Blizzak's locally, called the 'dude' up and offered to pick them up the following weekend. His response... "Well, I.... uh.... We can try that, but I still have them on the car" He was still driving on them, didn't have a replacement yet- but wanted to 'sale' them quickly. . . . . . WTF?

I saw an e39 530i listed in a CL ad in which the owner had not bothered to clean out the pile of Cheerios from next to the child's seat, or the piles of mud from the floor in the back seat. The car didn't look in particularly bad condition...it just looked like no one had ever loved...or even liked it. It had been 'rode hard and put away wet.'

How hard is it to wash the car and clean and vacuum the inside when you want to sell your car??
