New X5 owner looking for maintenance tips and advice

Hello all

Just recently bought a 2004 X5 4.4 v8 in excellent condition w/ only 61k miles from a friend. Normally not keen in buying a used car but knowing the owner and how well he took care of the car and how seldom he used it I couldnt resist getting my first BMW.
After driving it for a week I now understand the infatuation and love for BMW's. Wow what a machine!!

Is there any maintenance tips or advice to keep this new "relationship" healthy and lasting??
Changing filters , transmission flush, any adjustments, tuning etc....

Any and all advice would be appreciated it!

Thanks in advance

Hello and Congratulation for your new Bimmer ,,, you need to make sure that you using the premium Gasoline (93) , and you have to use the bmw Oil and filter only don't try anything other than that and you may buy it form the Dealer and BMW say that you have to change oil & filter every 15000 miles but for me I change my oil every 7000-8000 miles , and don't miss with the Transmission Oil because its life time , and I recommend you to Use every thing that made or Specific for BMW ,,, and for the spark plug you have to change them every 100,000 miles and because its yours has 61000 so its not due yet you don't wary about them now , BMW recommend that to change the Antifreeze every 2 years and you have to buy it from the Dealer it's about $20 ,,,,,,,

Great thread OP.

Not to hijack but was wondering what one should look for when buying a high mileage one?

don't need to buy bmw only parts there are OE parts from NAPA,and Car Quest to save on your cost and the warrany is better, can be life time. And when the window regulators fail I have used napa and bmw but didn't see any differance other than cost and warranty, they fail on a regular basis. Transmision do at 100k but its yours do what ever. Nothing is lifetime. Antifreeze yes longlife only and do not mix with others. when it comes time I used napa it meets the bmw requirments and cost half. bmw is not all what its cracked up to be. Then what engne is yours? if its a V8 get ready for valve seals going bad at around a 100k other than that I like mine probally love it when its gone.
