Major changes from 08 M3 to 10/11 and 13 M3?

I had a new 08 M3...what major changes have taken place over the years? Have the seats gotten any better?

Generally speaking nothing. Nav was the major upgrade. Rear lights went to LED with the 2011 LCI. Competition package was offered. That's about it.

Have there been any seating improvements (comfort wise)?

Same seats. I don't think BMW has ever changed seats mid-lifecycle.

Not that I can tell. I had an 08 and now I have a 13. Seems pretty much the same. I never had any comfort issues myself though.

Nope. Very little changed externally on the E92 M3.

I had a 2008 and loved it. My buddy has 2010 I can't really tell any differences other than the navi. My question would be is the DCT smoother in 2013?

There were a few software updates since 2008 that both improved the engine software (240E software) and smoothed out the DCT.

So if I wanted an M3 and wanted to save a little money (oxymoron, I know), there are no real differences between an 08 and a 12? That is encouraging! Besides the obvious tech updates. There is just something about the sound of that engine. I am saving, saving, saving!

If you want the proper competition package (not just the wheels), that would require you to get a 2011 or later.

The older nav can be retrofitted into a 2008 with nav for under 2K so nothing holding you back there. Engine is the same, although I'd encourage you to get the latest engine software and M-DCT software (if you're getting DCT) since that has changed significantly since 2008.

That is correct. From a normal driving perspective, my 08 and 13 are virtually identical.

it seems like some of these 11's and 12's are coming into the market now, I'm guessing either off lease or trade for something. I'm hoping for one in a year, so we will see what the new generation brings. I really like the E9x's. I would even consider a sedan, but they are a bit more difficult to find. Ideally, it would be a manual trans, but I have to consider others in my family.
