I have had the car now for almost 2 weeks. I have to say it is truly a best of the highest order. I drove it in efficient/comfort until recently and thought that it was stupendous but now it sport mode it is truly an astonishing car. One thing though, I don't think that at the end of the day it commands the presence of the Alpina. I still have moments that I regret my choice but that is probably my nature as I would have most likely felt the same if I got the Alpina. My wife was telling me that the Alpina is just to 'ver the top' and that she wold be a little embarrassed driving it around… The wife is always right.

Congrats on your new toy!

When I was walking with Greg to pick out my car, I heard a porter fire up a M5, quite the aural experience.

I stopped and watched him move it around, was very tempted on one of those. Back then they were 50% 3yr/12k yikes! compare that to the 58% 3yr/10k on my 7er on the same price vehicle. Huge difference in payment.

Again congrats on your new toy
Chris

Is the B7 LWB or SWB? In my eyes, the only car that has a big presence is the 7 in LWB form whether its a B7 or regular 7 series. When I was ordering my car I didnt even think twice about buying the shorter 7.

B7 only comes in SWB form.

You beat me to the post. Yes, B7 comes in all versions. I have the B7 LWB and love it. Considered the M5 but couldn't resist the legroom in a LWB 7-series (we have a kid).

Did you get it for about the same as a M5? Not that I don't love my 7er, I'm considering lease swapping to an Alpina SWB if its only a couple hundred more a month.

I never ran the lease numbers on a M5 but I'm at $1,400 incl ca tax for a 2013 B7 LWB with drivers assistance, B&O, full LED, rear entertainment, BMW apps. 10k/36 months. This is with euro delivery, MSD's and loyalty. Not sure what the residual and MF is today. The deal was via Greg Poland.

Wow! is all I can say. I inquired about a B7 but its not available thru the program I used to purchase my car (DoD Military sales). I doubt I could have afforded it anyway but I had to ask. But a fully optioned out LWB B7 like you have sounds like a beautiful car. Do you have pics? Would love to see it.

That's an incredible deal on the B7! Pat yourself on the back for me!

LOL. Thanks. The residual was 61% when I ordered - that really made a difference. Not sure it's as strong now, but the MF is lower today.

Nice B7. The least payment isn't bad at all. I remember LIRacer had a lease payment of well over $2k with a significant down payment. Not sure how that happened.

I think the residual was terrible the first year(s) the B7 was available here in the US. Not sure what else would get a lease payment that high. When I first started looking I wanted to take over a lease, but the payments were just astronomical so ended up ordering a new car instead.

UPDATE:
Still enjoying the M5, but missing the roominess and the 'presence' of the 7. Saw 3 B7s today and was kicking myself for not going that route.

3? Even off rodeo I've never seen more than one at a time, and rarely. M5s are hugely more common.

I agree, the M5 doesn't have road presence, most in my circles mistake it for a 5er with wheels initially. Which may be the appeal to some who desire to blend in, or have a "sleeper".

Still a beautiful car the [M]5 is, just too common for my taste.

Oddly enough it was off rodeo drive in BH… The one that got to me was a white one with blackened wheels and badging. I could have had that car for exactly the same payment per month and am kicking myself for that. Yes, the M5 is probably more of a drivers car I am sure, but something about the B7 is just irresistible to me and I should have gone with it. So that plan is now to keep the M for a year and try to do a lease swap I guess….

And that is exactly the thing: I see 5 series everywhere and to be honest, they are not beautiful. They are BMW's bread and butter and even in the M5 guise, it lacks presence. The 7, however, is a head turner for me even in the most 'basic' models. It's built as a top of the line car and it shows.

Not true. That honor goes to the 3 Series.

But the 5's are right behind.

I say slap on some hella Shoes to stand apart!
