Question Window off Track???

I was traveling home from grocery store and made a sharp turn which slung my groceries against the back door pretty hard made a nice thump! When i parked the car and tried to let he window up the car window would not move. i could here th motor but the window wouldnt move. My question is could the groceries slamming against the door knock the window off track?

Most likely the window regulator has failed but I do not know if it has anything to do with the grocery slinging. I have had one fail and they are very common failures. I bought from FCP Groton CT as they offered a lifetime warranty.

Anything is possible...and not knowing what type of groceries you're talking about...they probably didn't knock the window "off track".

You can see in the pics & diagram and the link to the part nbr index below...how the glass is attached to the window regulator. But before you can get to the glass & regulator...you have the interior door panel...then behind that is the "vapor barrier"...so there's 2 layers of trim plus the metal door frame that is in front of the glass. Something would have to be VERY heavy to knock the glass off track.

But, BMW window regulators are notorious for failing...there are lots of DIYs and youtube videos about BMW window regulators for the 3/5/7/X/Z model's window regulators:

Can someone tell me how to get the rear door panel off? The '01 X5 I'm working with has a window shade system on it that is stopping me from getting the panel off. I was able to get the lower panel loose and push the window up and taped it there but I really need to get the panel off without destroying it so I can replace the regulator. None of the instructions I have seen or read address the panels with the shade system on them.

Did you remove the shade for the fixed "triangular" window? It is secured to the door by a clip at the top...I believe you slip a thin blade or screw driver between the door frame and shade to manipulate a clip (#9 in diagram below) at the top.

There should be video or DIYs on how to remove the shade as well.

Good luck.

#9 is the clip (support) that secures the shade to the door frame...and #5 is the screw that secures the support:

Does the shade need to come out before the door panel comes loose? I'm starting to think that I need to pull the panel off of the door starting at the hinge end, maybe the shade assembly comes off with the door panel?
