extended service contract

I have a 2010 35d and only have 18,000 miles. The $0 Maintenance expires on Nov. 2013. I got a quote from a dealer on extended service contract. It is 5 years/100,000 miles, and it costs $4,600; $250 deductible per each service. Welcome any advice and opinion. Thanks.

You seem to be mixing apples and oranges.

The "extended service contract" is AKA "extended warranty".... the 250 deductible makes me think the dealer is screwing you with some 3rd party warranty (not BMW). recognize that dealers make $2000+ on the 3rd party plans and 500-1000 on the BMW plans.

Also know that the extended maintenance should be MUCH less than 4600. Like 2000. And the decision on the exteneded maintenance should be based on WHAT YOU HAVE ALREADY HAD DONE PRIOR TO NOV 13.

Given your low mileage, Id skip both.

If this was a " real " BMW warranty the deductible should be only 50 dollars not 250.

When inquiring about extended warranties myself, my local dealer was pushing a 3rd party warranty hard. The dealer claims that they will honor it like they would BMW warranties and its cheaper and covers a year longer. I'm still debating between 3rd party vs BMW. 3rd party is called Zurich.

If its affiliated with Zurich Insurance, that is not some fly by night operation. It's a huge insurance company that does commercial insurance, bonding. etc.

My warranty expired in May 2013. The Canadian Dealers do not offer BMW warranty (or at least that is what I was told) and were offering a third party warranty for $4000. It was a "warranty" and did not cover scheduled maintenance. I decided to take my chances and skip. If I have issues that is going to cost more than $4000, I will trade the car. So far so good. The $4000 is still in my pocket.
