2004 X3 Air Pump Relay

I need to get an inspection and the check engine light is on. The code says secondary air pump. Does anyone know which relay under the hood controls the air pump?

I had the same issue...I was able to find the right relay by checking out the driver's manual. My relay was ok, but I ended up replacing the secondary air pump--which was covered by my Ford Extended Service Plan, so I only paid $100 deductible.

No I found the fuse box by the glove box that is labeled but there is a box under the hood with relays but nothing is labeled.

secondary air relay location

on my 04 X3 it sits alone on the left of the plastic carriage holding another four relays.....remove the glove box first .....you can pop the relay out to work on it by springing it's plastic tab from the back....also check the center conductor ground wire for burning (terminal no 87 on relay usually)....if it's shot you can save going thru the bulk head to where it's terminated and find a new local ground ....don't know why they ran it so far up the loom to just by the front of the wash tank....I've seen several of these cooked in their sockets.....you can order wire jumpers/ new socket etc and do a good DIY crimp job

you can find a pic of the relay location here http://www.bmw-planet.com/diagrams/r.../e83/index.htm....just enter secondary air pump relay in the search box

this link maybe easier ....from real oem ...http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...01&hg=61&fg=25

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/att...2&d=1373482176

just read this one from Ryan I think .....shows him doing the tear down for his AC ....BUT .....look right on his picture .....you'll see the relay rack of 4 in a gang .....the air pump orangey one is usually just to the left side of those four hanging on the side of the rack.....just need to take 5 mins and drop the glove box to access
