I debate between a z3 and z4 roadster all the time. The z3M is a hoot to drive, super tossable like a Miata , but it's trunk is super small, so anything longer than an overnight/weekend with 2 people would be virtually impossible. The z4 is a better long distance cruiser and you can fit a set of golf clubs in the car. If I had to do it again, I would save my pennies for the z4M...best of both worlds. (though you couldn't find my beautiful Burgundy, the earlier versions only came in Imola and ILB, IIRC).
Would most likely aim for a Z4M coupe, but the roadster has a special place in my heart. I love convertibles, but I feel the Z4M coupe is a little more my style.

I want to find an Alpine White with red or Interlagos blue with dove. I have a solid few years to find one, but I want to wait for the right one to pop up.

Have you had a chance to experience driving a Z4M? I want to know how the S54 feels in the Z4 body. In the E46 M3, I absolutely love it. If the Z4m is just as good (if not better) than the E46, I'm sold.

Just applied for an awesome sounding Web Producer position in Charlottesville, VA!

Basically the same type of role I have here with a more clearly defined job role, and its less than an hour from my GF's potential new job, so we could find a place somewhere in the middle and have very reasonable commutes.

Only thing that skeeves me out is the job market is so much slower down there, that if something didn't work out it would be tough to find another position within driving distance. But then I have to remind myself that our living expenses will be 50% what they are now, and if we're diligent, we can build up a solid 12 months of living expenses pretty quickly and at least have plenty of time to find another job if something happened.

Hope I get a call back, each of us having a 1-1.5 hour commute doesn't sound very fun.

CVille's not bad. There are plenty of places between DC and there to find REALLY cheap housing.

James, your situation is no different than a merit based raise from your position. Quit yer bitchin'!

Isn't the Z4MC lighter than the E46 M3? Seems like the Z4MC will feel more sprightly for that reason alone. I've ridden as a passenger in an S54 Z3MC during an auto-x lap being driven by a SCCA Solo national champion. That sucker moves.

Anecdote: The Z4M coupe was the highest point stock BMW in our autocross registry until the 1M.

That means according to our classifying gods, it's the best suited for autocross across the marque at stock levels.

If I had to do it over again, I'd just buy a Z4MR and be done with it. Maybe wrap it some cool color, like pink!

I would assume the Z are hell of alot lighter then the e46s

Thats probably why the M coupe is tuned slower than the e46M

My understanding is that it is lighter than a E46M, but for some reason, it just seems bulkier in my eyes. I wish I could test drive one. E46M blew my socks off.

Jared: Definitely not complaining about the raises. Actually incredibly stoked!

No offense to Jen, but the Z4 is a heavy little porker.

The one that would be a beast is the late production Z3M with the S54.

oh i know. but i should have enough saved up by september to pull the trigger on one in my price range. it DOES hinge upon selling the cams and turbocharger though.

and when i do buy it, the E36 will get parked with a "for sale" sign in the window and i'll let nature take it's course.
