Compass in rearview mirror?

Just realized that there is compass in rearview mirror ... It took a month to realize. Any idea why this has been taken away? Is there a compass at all ? I have 2011 x35i with all pkgs except DHP

There is a North-pointing compass on the Nav screen, in the lower left corner adjacent to the scale.

I know that but it is not as helpful as the compass in mirror. Not sure why it was skipped in this model.

Why do you think BMW get rid of the compass? Doesnt it always come down to cost?

You can also get compass functionality (as well as lat/long/alt which is valuable as well) in split-screen on your display.

It's a shame. Honestly I do not use it often but definitely gives a good idea where we are heading. Complained about it when I had 2013 RDX

I dont use it that much, but for the few time I do use it, I gotten use to using the compass on the I-drive. Just one less clutter in the rear view mirror as far as I am concerned.

I'm okay without the compass on the rear view.. nav makes it a redundant feature.

Actually I always found it annoying when I'm on an Eastbound highway and the mirror was telling me I was actually driving NE or N and I'd have to google how to calibrate it.

PS> I am loving the split screen set up for Nav.. i split the screen into 2 nav views: left side is my driving direction view, and right side (smaller split) i have the north up view at a larger scale.

Same here. I have never used a compass.

Can't think why we should need a compass for car navigation. Our google map on mobile phone is good enough. Besides, I am sure most mobile phones have a compass these days.

Let us not talk about 'need' otherwise we should need a very simple car for point A to point B and many other simpler things. So this compass can be classified as 'want' or 'good to have ' object
