Brand new x3 - problems and problems !!!!

Just too many RATTLES in the X3. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYBODY TO BUY THIS VEHICLE.

I have had many more issues with the vehicle in the last couple
of days which I have personally brought to the notice of BMW India but to NO GAIN... Here is the sequence of events.

1. 31st May - Delivery taken
2. 31st May - within an hour, car returned to the service center with the
rear AC problem. Took around 5hrs to rectify
3. 31st May - car returned to me
4. 3rd June - left front door noise, service people again try and repair
the same. They communicated to me that the problem was solved
5. 4th June - same door noise problem back, car once again goes to the
service center and takes about 6hrs to repair
6. 10th June - right front door intermittent noise, problem communicated
7. 13th June - goes back to the workshop
8. 23rd June - vehicle returned back
9. 27th June - problem of rattles back... car sent back to the service station
10. 29th June - vehicle has come back
11. 1st July - problem of door rattle back
12. 4th July - vehicle back to the service station
13. 5th July - vehicle returned to me
14. 9th July - sunroof rattling and 12th July- door rattle back again

NOW WHO WOULD RECOMMEND BUYING X3 IN SUCH A CASE ? BMW HAS ONLY OFFERED TO KEEP REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. ALL THESE PROBLEMS HAVE HAPPENED WITHIN A MONTH OF PURCHASE. NO EMPATHY, NO COMPENSATION, NOTHING.

Well, means you got some car that did not get the right proper quality control. So won't buy yours. But that goes to far to say nobody should buy any.
You know BMW got the buy back option right? If you really are not satisfied and they cannot solve the problems, you could get a brand new one ...

Wel i can only speak of the problems one has faced. And i am not aware of this buyback option. BMW hasnt yet offered me the same... what i am saying is that quality control of this particular vehicle is one thing, but WHAT HAS BMW done in terms of CUSTOMER SATISFACTION ? BMW should take ownership of the issue and RESOLVE it. Cant keep going to the service station each time right !!

Request a new replacement or money back. If they can resolve the problems insist they issue an extended warranty free of charge.
Is a body shop or BMW service handling the issues?

Proceed with a buy back. Sorry you got a bad one. Something is not right. Rattles can be taken care of.

With the exception of the rear air conditioner (which was apparently fixed) all the problems cited by the OP are just rattles which do not affect the safety or operation of the vehicle. Now they are annoying and one would not expect them in a brand new car of any quality much less a BMW. However the roads may not be the smoothest and perhaps that has something to do with it. The other thing is that being overseas there is not the same warranty/buyback/trade assist/lemon law protection that we enjoy here in the north American market. Just some thoughts.

I agree, rattles are not a major problem, every brand has them, they are very unpleasant but not a safety or operational issue. It will be pretty tough to get BMW to buy back a car just because of a few rattles. Rattle can be pretty time consuming to fix, they can be hard to isolate, it usually takes the dealer a few try to get it right. What usually works for me is to take a ride with the shop foreman and show him where the rattle is coming from.

Do you get loaner in india when in service? Rattles can be annoying. If this persist you should ask for replacement. Even if the roads are not auto bahns of Germany in India, it should not translate to rattles with brand new car.

piyushjain, is your X3 made in China? BMW started making the X3 in China for the Asian market this year. I am not saying the Chinese cannot make a quality product, but you might be part of the learning curve.

F25 X3s are assembled in Chennai, India from CKD (Complete Knock Down) kits. There's a huge difference in customs duty between a fully assembled vehicle and a CKD vehicle.

Roads in India are among the worst in the world. That most likely does not help.

Guessing this doesn't help as it is assembled differently than in the factory with probably less quality control and by people that don't know the car as well as they are assembly all models in limited numbers, and then the road quality certainly won't help.

Mine is rattle free, but was assembled at the factory and the roads are pretty decent where I drive.

Good luck getting your issues resolved!

After a little goggling, I found that BMW have been making the X3 in Chennai, India since 2011. After 3 years, one would think they should have the quality issue resolved. Ultimately, itís up to BMW to control quality and hire qualified factory workers.

I would definitely push for the buy back option. You definitely do not want to pay premium price for the car and end up with poor quality, regardless of where it is assembled.

As far as the road conditions are concerned, I can tell you that I have been to India 8 times and the road conditions in all major cities are way-way better than the city of Boston, where I live. Believe me Boston is nothing but a city of pot-holes and my X3 has no issues so far. Take this issue seriously with BMW.

You should force BMW India to take the car in for a few days, test drive it all the time until the rattles are gone... and they need to supply you with an equal temp car.
Or if they don't solve the problem, seek the media.
