Alee, once your ship docked, how did you proceed from there as far as finding out when it got through customs and scheduling the PCD?

Customs you can track up to the point the car is marked as released by carrier. This basically says they have done everything they need to do and it's on its way to the VPC.

Your dealer becomes your very best friend at that point. Have them pull a VIR (vehicle inquiry report) which will then give you fine resolution detail on what is happening to the car along the way. Once there's an end in site (VPC says all clear), your dealer will contact you.

If you want to save a little back and forth, I'd recommend telling your dealer now what day of the week works best for you (knowing Fridays are hard to book, but if you can pull off a Mon or a Tue, you have a lot more choices). Also if there are any black-out dates you cannot travel.

So this is interesting information. I requested PCD and was given August 8th despite my car being here mid-July. I am traveling in August so I asked for an earlier date and the PCD said no.

My dealer is now going to ask again when it gets on the boat, is that the proper method? I live in Greenville SC so I don't need any notice.

Your dealer is really your best advocate. Best guess is BMW allocates a fixed number of slots for ED/PCD folks and PCD only folks which is why I was able to schedule for dates that are probably not available to you (I'm ED/PCD).

I also have already taken delivery of my car, so there is no introduction to my car part of my delivery which would normally take up a delivery specialist.

The most craptastic one unfortunately given my work schedule has really fouled up my plans. Original plan was to take a week and do a scenic route. Now it's looking like it's a straight shot home as quick as I can do it.

Sun - LGA to GSP
Mon - PCD to Charlotte, NC via I-85
Tue - AM appt at Hendrick BMW, then I-77 to I-81 to I-78 back to NYC
Wed - AM flight to the Midwest for work

Avoiding I-95... nothing but bad luck on that road for me.

I second that...I-95 is terrible.

I think I'm taking the highways to Asheville and then following the blue ridge parkway for 275 miles or so. I'll hit the highway after that to head back to PA.

That part of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashville north is really nice, just did it this week. During the week the traffic was minimal.

I've heard the speed limit is 45 and strictly enforced. Did you notice many rangers around?

Not one on the 200 miles we drove. We cruised at a comfortable speed between 40 and 60 the whole drive. Occasionally got stuck behind slower traffic but people are pretty good about pulling off at overlooks and letting you by.

July 15 th PCD

Almost two months since I dropped the 535 off in Nice. Two weeks traveling through Austria and Italy, can't wait to get behind the wheel again. Hopefully I'll catch up with some of you in SC.

Package I had delivered to the Marriott Greenville currently missing. Not a good start.

That menu looks a lot different than the one we had in early June. I was pleasantly surprised with the food.

We are headed back in early August for M-School and staying at the Marriott again.

Can't underestimate how early the start is when you have a restless night of anticipation. It's 6:12am now... breakfast starts at 6:30am and the shuttle an hour later to the Performance Center.

So far, it has been solid - VIP all the way - minus one fairly major negative that most of you will probably find a way to avoid.

Having shipped about $4000 in car parts, tools, etc. ahead of me to avoid lugging it on the plane, and I foolishly assumed the Marriott Greenville would handle this appropriately. Called ahead earlier in the week to verify the exact way to ship things to the Marriott. Shipped Thu morning, and UPS shows the package was delivered on-time on Friday to Greenville. Currently, nobody knows where this package is, nor does anyone recognize who signed for it.

Will find the manager on duty when I go down to breakfast. They have until 3pm today to either find it, or tell me how to get my $4K back. Big negative on something that should have been routine. I ship stuff ahead of me all the time... presentation material, equipment, etc. These guys can't handle that?

That's a bummer. Hopefully they find it soon. Just curious, what were you shipping ahead?

Turns out the night crew didn't know where this stuff was kept. Just turned up as we were having breakfast.

I shipped all my Euro parts ahead of me so tonight's waypoint would be a chance to install it.
