Mein Auto: 02 X5
02 X5 4.4 "transmission fail safe"

A friend of mine has only had her 02 X5 4.4 (111,000 miles) for a couple of months.
Today she was on her way into a road trip and the "transmission fail safe" light came on and the car wont shift pass 4th gear. She tried doing the reset by turning the key to position 2 and pressing the gas pedal. It didn't work.

She is a bit worried and I told her I would look into possible causes and solutions....now I turn to you all!

thanks
