Stuck passenger seat

Hey all. After many days of rain i discovered a puddle of water under passenger seat. This i guess messed with the electrics under the seat. My question is this: does anyone know a trick to get the seat out when i cant access the rear two bolts? Any help would be appreciated

I would try disconnecting the harness on the drive motor to the main harness and rig up a way to provide 12 volt DC power to the motor. Possibly with some small alligator clips or just pushing two wires into the motor harness. Then when you hook the other ends of the wire to a 12 volt battery the motor should work and move your seat. If it moves in the opposite direction you want then reverse the polarity on the wires.

Hope this helps.

If the motor is installed the same way as on my z3, you may be able to remove it and manually turn the two shafts that run from either side of the motor to the rails on either side of the seat.

Thanks for the ideas. Will give them a try
Btw. All the other functions (of the seat) still work except for the forward/backward switch.

Well tried and failed. Im ready to take a torch to the seat. The motor looks like a hunk of rusted steel maybe i should feel lucky that its not the drivers side. If anyone has had this problem and figured a third solution (other than a torch) please let me know. Thanks again

There is a cable that goes from each end of the motor to the gear at the seat rail. In my car it is covered with a black plastic and looks like a steel rod but it is flexible and you can bend it and pull it out of the gear by the seat rail. Pull it out and insert the appropriate ratchet drive into the hole and turn the seat gear to move the seat forward - a long and painful process as you will have to do each side. Hope this works for you - good luck.

Thanks for another response. I will try this over the upcoming weekend. I was wondering if there is a way to remove the seat cushion in order to work from above rather than snake my arm under the seat. Thanks again for all of your ideas.

I don't think I will have been much help! I have a Z3 and after looking at parts diagrams I'm not sure the Z4 is too similar. Nevertheless, without cutting things I think your best bet will be to make the seat go high as possible then remove the motor and find a way to manually turn the gears. You might try connecting the motor directly to a 12v battery - at least that will tell you something! Let us know how it goes.
