Sound like your nav computer went south. If you have an MK2 navi you can pick one up on ebay fairly cheap.
Good luck.

Just curious - why do you think it's the Nav that's bad? Usually when they go bad, the radio will start then shut off by itself as the system realizes the Nav is not working correctly. But, then you can click the radio off & back on again & it will work again for a couple more minutes. The OP's radio stays on (from what I read).

To me, it sounds like his Nav screen is what's going/gone bad. He can hear the radio, but just can't see the screen info to tell him how to adjust the fader & stuff.

This won't be much help, but the only way I know to easily test the screen is to swap in a known working one (maybe from someone that lives in your area?).

Can you please give a little more detail?

Does your Navigation work OK, and you can see the map?

If it's just the radio stations you can't see, is it the radio station displayed on the Nav screen, or is it the radio stations displayed on the Mid (under the cluster)?

Any pics of the problem would be very helpful.

Thank you sealbeach740, I can not see map and radio station. Mk3 ejects CD without problem.
When I push the Navigation knob, the orange light didn't come ON and the screen shows like grey color.
Thank you for your help.

If you have TV as well as nav, switch off ignition and disconnect the nav. Now switch on for 2 mins, then off, then on again. You should now see a blue screen with all menus except the nav.

In addition, if you have upgraded to widescreen and lost the INFO and SELECT button functions, these become available again with the nav disconnected

If you don't have a TV module, then it sounds like your Nav computer isn't working correctly.

Does your radio go off after 2 minutes? Can you get it to go on again by turning the radio on again, but then it goes off again after 2 minutes? If so, then almost for sure it's your Nav computer in the trunk.

My radio is working fine. The navigation didn't work. When I push the Monitor button (on the radio) the orange light didn't turn ON and the screen shows like grey color. My MK3 ejects CD with no problem.
I don't know if the problem is the screen, or the MK3 or software or part of the navigation inside the radio is wrong?
Really appreciate your help peolple from bimmerfest.

You said you didn't want the nav, but the screen is there for the nav. If nav (or TV or both) hadn't been specified at purchase, then you wouldn't have the screen either since there would be nothing to dislpay that couldn't be shown on a basic system. Check the 2 plugs to the back of the nav are properly located; also the 2 to the monitor. If still not working and you have genuine software and map cds, then its time to replace the nav

Well yes, there is an easy fix, but at a price. You can buy a digital tv module that is simply a plug n play replacement for your existing. You will get all the freeview channels. You have to very careful buying these tv modules, as there a lot of versions about. The latest versions also support widescreen monitors, but that is yet another cost to change...if you can find a r/h drive version.
Example - I have not used this vendor, but ebay germany is a good place to find them.

Ignition off. Remove the l/h boot trim. Remove the Nav with radio style hooks and unplug (if you have upgraded to a MK 3 version, then make sure the nav unit indicator light has gone off first) ; then the trim to the NAV; then unscrew 2 plastic fasteners to right of nav. Ease trim free at the top. If it feels fixed at the bottom, there may be 2 plastic rivets holding it to the chassis rail best removed with a panel tool, screwdriver if you have to. With the trim off, TV/video module is the big silver one on your left, held in with one screw with 2 lever connectors on top plus 2 small square silver ones which just pull off. With practice, 10 minutes all done. Oh, and those 2 plastic screws? Well contact adhesive the bits that fell off to the back of the trim and gently replace the screws.

97 740il cd error

Radio, display, tape, as well as controls all work properly when a cd is inserted into 6 disk changer an error message is displayed on the radio. Also, equalizer can be adjusted but all my interior speakers sound blown and pop even if the volume isn't too high. Any thoughts?
