F32 428i VS. CPO E92 335is

Hi all, long time lurker of the forums, and now I am ready to take the plunge. I am debating between a F32 428i or a loaded CPO 2011 E92 335is with 15k on the clock. I'm gauging it against the 335is because of it's around the same ballpark in terms of price.

In your opinion, which would you choose? If any of you have gone through the BMW CPO path, can you please shed light on your experience.

What I look for in a car:
1) Driving dynamics
2) In cabin tech

Will I regret not getting the latest and greatest that BMW has to offer?

Thank you all in advance for the help =]

I'd get the E92 335is. I think it looks better than the 428i and your will be a more unique if you get the E92 335is.

Re: F32 428i VS. CPO E92 335is

You're comparing apples to oranges. If you were comparing f32 335i with e92 335is, the comparison would be more aligned.

335is has inline-6 whereas 328 has 4s. That is the biggest one. 328 will produce 240hp on papers - in reality like 260-270 for some. 335is is 320hp on papers in reality like 340 for some.

Other differences:
E92 would have hydraulic steering system, f32 has electric. F32 has twin power turbo whereas e92 does not. E92 has the classic bmw feel of hard pedal whereas f3x have soft pedal.
F32 will have latest gizmos where as e92 will not.
F32 will give better mileage than e92.
Lastly, f32 will be NEW whereas e92 will be USED.

What will you be using the car for? DD? Weekend ride? What's more important to you:
tighter corners, exhaust tone, power, uniqueness??, hydraulic steering, hard pedal feel?

Or: tight corners, mileage, newer styling, New car smell, twin power turbo, latest gizmos?

Choice is yours. My advice: test drive both thoroughly and then decide.
And update us what you choose.

I think I would go with the 335is. The in cabin tech really isn't that significant of a difference and if you seek power then I think you would regret not stepping up to the 335is. Personally, I made the choice back in '08 to go with a 328 instead of a 335 partly because of the HPFP issues, but the entire time I owned it I wanted the 335. While it was a great car it still wasn't what I really wanted. So even though I have my Z4 now, I still want the power so I am going to be going to the 435i soon.

335is is a very unique car. It comes with dual-turbo N54 engine, 7-speed dual clutch transmission (if you opt for automatic) and host of other performance upgrades, including performance exhaust that makes it sound very mean. It's a very fast car.

428i on the other end will be very subdued car, with adequate power and brakes, key word here is adequate. Fuel economy will be much better and 8-speed automatic will be smoother. Don't expect any exciting engine or exhaust sounds either.

im usually one of the guys that always says get the newer body style. but honestly the F32 is ugly. that side vent alone and weird green house would do it for me.

plus the fact there is DCT on the 335is is awesome if you are planning on getting a DCT / auto. bmw seems to be reserving that for the M cars in the future (m135i doesnt have it...) . plus the n54 is great. its not like performance is an issue. the e92 chassis everyone says drives better and you get hydraulic steering which should be better (this isnt a huge deal for me personally but its something right).

the in cabin tech i guess it depensd on what you want. if you are gonna get stuff like radar cruise control with stop and go, and surround view and all that crap then yeah the F32 will be better. if you are talking just like hooking up an iphone or nav, then i figure it wont matter much.

Personally speaking I would go with the 428 because I would hate to spend that much money on a 2 year old car soon to be 3. The depreciation on the e92 will start to accelerate and once being almost same in price will not be true in 2 years so you will lose more money in the long run. I was in this same spot because I was looking at a 2011 335 a year ago and they were about the same price as a new 328. Even though one is a coupe and one was a sedan and completely different cars, I went with the 328 strictly due to the resale value later on.
