At last - cause for celebration!

.

HERE is the future, and it is M.

BimmerBoost, an excellent site BTW, is downbeat, but we plebian vanilla 3/4 pilots consider this amazing news!

M suspension parts to be had, and here I'm not talkin' poseur M Sport parts, the stuff that, if all one can get, I suppose is worth something. No. I'm talking real BMW engineered performance, and this time it's not just the suspension!

That's exciting....first up I'll be looking for forged conrods; take it from there. Suddenly plug-n-play isn't just about M suspension parts, and easy R&R....nope, there'll be real and thoroughly tested gains in the engine bay.

I rub-a my hands.....shadetree jockeys, got some work ahead....

I don't see any problem. Does anybody complain because the 1M had the old N54? Anybody is saying that the current X5M/M5/M6 engines are lacking?

He is right about the AWD too. My feelings exactly.

it does kind of kill the value proposition of M cars though. You felt like you were getting more "special" stuff before.

Personally I wish I could just get the suspension on a normal car. Like an F30 328i with a M3 DCT and an F80 M3 suspension. one can dream.

I don't really care.

They said for years that my S52 is not a real M engine, no ITBs and such. It also did not require the same maintenance of the Euro motor or S54. I am personally smitten with the S52, the way it sounds, its reliability, easy to work on. ITBs look badass and may be better for throttle response and people get to claim them as REAL M engines. But I could give a crap. I like how the S52 operates. BooHoo.

If the cars suck, don't buy them. It's really that simple. If people accepted that mantra instead of whining and repeating the same things over and over about what they DONT LIKE, this place would be a ghost town.

I agree--and it would be a higher quality, more enjoyable forum, as well, without all the tiresome whiners.

Really enjoyed this part praising the glorious S85

Quote:
So you know that awesome BMW S85 V10 revving over 8000 rpm giving somewhat of a direct link to the Motorsport division that seemed equally at home in an Italian exotic as it did under the hood of a BMW sport sedan? Yep, that one with the individual throttle bodies, over 100 horses per liter, that won all those awards, and that you could not get anything like it in a 550i, 545i, 535i, 530i, 528, or 525i? You know, a real unique M motor made specifically for an M car and only available in an M car? Say goodbye to ever seeing that again.

I don't really understand the complaining.

To remain more efficient and lighter, they need an inline 6 with forced induction. The S85 is great but too heavy and inefficient and they can't squeeze more out of that unless they turbocharge it, but I'm not sure if there's more room for that.

The N55 is a killer architecture, so why not build off something great? Seems stupid to completely redesign another inline 6 forced induction engine from the ground up, "just to be different."

The M3/M4 engine is going to be insane, whether uniquely designed or a triple/quad turbo tuned version of the N55 ...

Sooner or later they'll have to go xDrive too. Audi has already for a while, MB plans on it for their next AMG C class. Look at the xDrive 335 vs RWD, the xDrive is on the tails of the RWD and beats it out in some tests. Times are changing, and although it's cute to remain true to their roots, they have to evolve to stay relative and competitive.

To some people, it may be a shock to learn that we are now living in 2013, and even worse for some people, in an era when fuel economy and carbon emissions actually matter to many people and governments. A lot of old timers may find this situation unpleasant, compared to their 'good old days.' but times have changed--and, as many of us young folks think, for the better, as BMW continues to find ways to build the best-performing cars for these times!
