2011 Z4 35i. Believe recent accident largely caused by rear view mirror -created blind spot. Has anyone noticed similar issue?

I really haven't noticed a significant issue with a blind spot in my car.

The rear view millor? No, but, the front windshield pillars often make blind spots. I have to lean my body forward a little to check out the blind spots.
Sorry for the recent accident.

We put a small, stick-on blind spot mirror on the driver's side mirror of ALL our cars (except the F150) for that reason.

Ford pickups come with them standard, as does the upper trim levels of Fusion, Focus, etc. A better idea.

If everyone would set up their sideview mirrors in the following way, no one would have a blind spot in any car at all. Here's a tutorial on how to do it, as I was taught at BMW PDS.

Advanced driving techniques dictate that you always know what is behind you!!! During the test the examiner will ask at any time what is the make /colour of say the 3rd or 4th car behind you fail to answer correctly will cause you to fail !!! You should look into your mirrors on a 2 to 1 ratio as you look forward..............As you become proficient you will no longer suffer from blind spots which is as much about poor driving technique as it is poorly positioned mirrors

It's funny you mention that because I feel there is actually less blindspots in the Z4 then many other cars I drive.

Because of my height I usually sit pretty far back in the seat. Which means the door pillar on most sedans on the passenger side blocks a good portion of my view while making turns into traffic. I rarely notice rearward blindspots because I set my mirrors well and always turn my head.

Who cares what's behind you? 2 to 1 behind you? That's ridiculous! Unless, of course, you're driving in reverse...

You will if you have a blind spot and have no idea what is behind you, clearly the standard of driving is significantly better in the UK than the US !!!!! We drive at faster speeds on significantly narrower roads and on the correct side of the road !!!!!

Always helpful to know if the police are catching up to you.

I checked my side mirrors, and found the right side being too far right. I did set it to see the right lane. But, I guess I had a blind spot, so I corrected it according to the tutorial. Thank you for posting it. I am not sure if I like this set up, but I will keep it for a while.

All I can say is "Get used to it". It's different than what you're used to but the difference in safety is worth it. In theory, you don't even need to turn your head becuase their is no blind spot, but I can't go quite that far!

LOL so true.

Plus, I think the US speed limits are higher than the UKs on average.

Jparnes1 gets the prize!! He is 100% correct with his first comment. If you adjust your mirrors- you can eliminate the blind spots on any vehicle. Great post!!! Thanks for the link also, you may have prevented some accident's. I learned this in Drivers Education when I was 15 in High School, the problem with the USA is that anyone can get a driver's license with-out training. (If you cant turn your head to double check then 2 options. 1) Stay home 2) Take the bus or walk.
Williakz is the cause of more accident's then he realize's. Not checking the rearview mirror is the worst driving habit a person can have! Go to school and get properly taught! (He is the guy in the fast lane with a line of cars trying to pass) Or the guy with the Ambulance or the Cop car behind him looking like the President!!! I bet if an 18 wheeler was behind him he would care. Or maybe Williakz has a "Death Wish"
